c5.5 is not a legal move?

Martin0

Only rooks, bishops and queens can stop between squares.

Marks1420

Well, I'll say it. I *think* black has a resource.

Marks1420

Of course I'm afraid to even say that since almost everything I've suggested to far is illegal lol

Marks1420

Martin, how are you able to move pieces to half squares on your program? I want to look at it deeply.

Martin0

I'm using a version that I have not published yet. I intend to release it when I'm done working with the feature to display captured pieces. But I haven't worked on it in a long time now.

Sounds like stalling tactics to me tongue.png

Also, here's another feature I have not published yet to make you more jealous.

I look forward to its release!

I hope the new release of your program accidentally fixes whatever stops it working on my comp.

Marks1420

I have to take care of some things around the house first, then I'll settle in to think about this. Though I have to say the odds that what I am thinking about saves black is miniscule.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Martin thought we had a decent chance of holding this, he would have pushed for the win instead of offering us a sympathy draw. But perhaps you have found something, it's very easy to miss tactics and resources given the complexity of the events.

Marks1420

Well after looking at it for a while, I'm pretty confident you guys could've saved the rook but Martin would still be able to win a piece.

It was mostly a matter of fairness. I don't think you guys made any mistakes and I did not wish to win that way.

Of course, there is always a risk of me missing something. It's not easy to calculate and it takes some time to get used to the new rules. It was not obvious to me the events were really good for me until I had spent some time thinking about it.

Very unlikely since I'm adding things, not changing existing code much, but who knows. Maybe.

I'll probably start working on it again in November.

I actually thought the first event was better for us until I had properly absorbed it. It was only when I saw Bde2.5 or whatever your first move was that I realised we were in some trouble. We were afraid to castle because of h4, it seemed like you had a strong attack with two great bishops, the queen, the rook, and the knight not far behind, while all our material was queenside. I think the Grunfeld was a disastrous choice of opening, but we obviously can;t know that until the events happen.
