This is the Mega-dog round-1 game (bulldog with spirit) between rychessmaster1 (White) and McGoohan (Black).

Please see (this game) for rules of bulldog with spirit.

The opening board is here:

Ry plays White. Good luck to both players!happy.png

McGoohan

Good luck Ry and may the spirit be with you :-)

A spirit can only leave the possessed piece, if he is able to possess another piece?

As I understand a spirit can leave a possessed piece so it's not possessing anything. (agree with Ry's interpretation).

Also, regarding a possessed pawn, are these rules correct?
1) a possessed pawn that moves back to the first or second rank does not have a 2-square move. (a pawn's 2-square move is allowed only on its first move).
2) A possessed pawn can promote either with a normal pawn move, or a knight move.

Showing possessed pieces as red:
1.e4...Sh6
2.Sxd2...f6

McGoohan

vickalan, wouldn't it be possible for you to do the graphics like Martin? I find a red pawn visually much more expressive and clear than a red square. sorry if I bother you here with such a detail and I know that you are doing an enormous and great job for all of us. But the marked square irritates me very much, it emphasizes the SQUARE and not the SPIRIT with the possessed piece (pawn) and the red square somehow blocks my usual intuitive perception in the overview for possible combinations. Sorry that I seem to function a bit complicated.

2 is correct. I think 1 is incorrect

I think e.g. d2-b1 would not be a pawn-move from Ry because the Knight function of the spirit is used. So b1-b3 would be possible later. But the question can be interpreted differently and seems important to me for clear rules.

I haven't heard of a spirit before, can someone give me the rules?

One rule I do know about the spirit: Possessed Kings can only escape check with a king move

This makes no sense to me and I am only aware of this basic rule:

A spirit moves as a knight. It can 'capture' friendly pieces, which gain the movement of a knight in addition to it's other abilities.

Why should this rule not apply to the King?

McGoohan

Can you give me a link where this special rule is documented as valid and binding?

I'll start using red pieces to show possessed pieces. I had to look in the bulldog club to find the template, but it wasn't hard to find.

I'm not sure who first played this, or how many games have been played. We're using the rules from this game: bulldog-chess-with-spirit-thegreatauk-rychessmaster1.

I'm not sure who invented the spirit, so I left a question in the bulldog club (here). If nobody replies soon we will have to decide on our own. (rule clarifications for possessed pawn)

2.Sxd2...f6
3.Ng3...Sxg8

Evidently Tomato invented the spirit. Based on some feedback (at link above) lets use this as clarification to the rules:

Rule addendum:

1) A possessed pawn promotes on the 8th rank as usual, even if it moves there as knight.

2) A pawn may not make a 2-square move if it has made any other move (including moving as a knight while possessed).

3) A possessed king may move as knight even if checked.
