Thanks for the efforts to fix, Ace.
So, I played my first game against myself tonight. It was rather fun! (Your setup)
On the other hand, Ace, there was, frankly, a whole lot of "nothing" going on. When I say nothing, I mean that it takes too long for the pieces to threaten each other. We're dealing with a grandly huge board with most of its pieces that can only move in hind-sight range. We have huge armies that only have 5 pieces (the original Queen, Bishops and Rooks) that can move in long unlimited ranges. The rest takes too long to get close to one another. It was very easy for me during many moments when pieces aren't doing much of anything (because they are simply too far away) to get bored and to put the game away. I stopped playing to pick up again later on. Then, I stopped playing again to pick up on it later. That's what I did a few times throughout today.
Otherwise, it was pretty fun. There were some up moments when I surprosed myself with attacks I didn't think were possible before. Because the Cobra piece is rather unpredictable, there were momentary opportunity of captures (and escaping threats) that came to rescue when other pieces were threatening the army. Of course, I was only playing myself, but still! =D
And, what can I say about the Cardinal and the Seige Tower? Both added an interesting dimension to the game: They were blocked and escapable at the same time. Because of their limited range, which is blockable, they seem harmless at first, only to attack with their range 3 leap attacks at unpredictable moments.
You must be doing a million things to update your game. I say, if you're up to making modification to the pieces ranges, maybe that can help reduce the "nothing" 's that can happen a lot in these games. Aside from that, the game is great.
The question now is, how long will it take for us to develop a book of tactics?? =D Wouldn't that be awesome.
If you can't move a side. Hit "mode" up on top and select edit game. Winboard assumes that it is anouther online player otherwise.
