Blocked users

With great power comes great responsibility.

Undoubtedly the highlight of that thread was Karl_ saying "you have to try harder than that to get blocked by me."

Saying "That's a good idea, and if we did it this way you could also do these other things." is what got me blocked by him.  Not only did I not have to try hard, I didn't even try:

It just goes to show that what constitutes "highjacking" is just as subjective as what makes someone a "jerk" and that some people are entirely too trigger-happy when it comes to the block feature.

Perhaps a discreet, automated note WITHIN the thread to the effect that a particular poster has been blocked would be helpful in explaining that poster's sudden silence.

If people were reasonable about blocking it would always be self evident, but I do like the idea.  The one challenge I can see is that unless you limit it based on threads in which both members have posted within a recent time window you'd have to go back and add the note to all of the threads ever created by the blocker

Blocking a bunch of people is a good way to make yourself very unpopular very quickly.

In my mind the blocking's not even the issue.

Puking asinine threads all over the forums and then becoming indignant to anyone who questions it is the root of the problem, but this latest development of also puking all over everyone else's threads is a bridge to far.

If you can't check yourself, someone is going to have to do it for you....

i must agree with both of you but still not everyone is as responsible as you seem to be its true the problem of asinine threads but blocking people wont fix nothing i suppose and i guess you don't agree with me anyway i rather respond with responsible threads than going on blocking people

I adore asinine threads.  It's mostly why I bother to come to the forums when I don't have a real chess question. 

Why did they lock it? It seems innocent enough.
