Blocking is pointless - Everyone is unblocked

Recently I have unblocked anyone that I have ever blocked because it is not like it does anything. People will just start other threads about the same topic themselves and then you can just go argue on that one and repeat the process. Also, then people start making those"oh my god why did you block me that was my favorite thread blaaahhhhhhh" threads. Also, all it does it limit the number of chess games you can play and slow down bughouse matches. Who cares if the guy you are playing is an a-hole, chess is chess, it doesn't matter who is moving the pieces. Don't look at, or disable chat if necessary. They should remove the block option. I honestly don't care how many PMs or nasty comments people send, the number next to my home icon is still only 3 digits happy.png

I agree.

While I can understand there are some real reasons to block, it is often misused.

I wonder if chess.com has stats on how many blocks are out there.

I blocked one person once... because he were mean to me on every one of my forums. But then I forgave him and now I see no reason to block people just like you stated.

You realise the forums aren't the only aspect of chess.com? As you mentioned, PM's exist, live chess exists, and there are chatboxes there. Profile notes exist. If you're an active forum poster and participator on chess.com, then blocking people is illogical, most of the time. However the majority of blocks don't come from forum harassment or flame wars. The majority come from people harassing others in live chatboxes, or forum notes, or pm's, and an individual doesn't need to see that BS everywhere they look on chess.com, so blocking isn't pointless at all.

The forums represent a tiny portion of the chess.com community, just keep that in mind

Being blocked by someone, should make you feel proud, it shows that you’ve done battle with someone, and won . 🙀

Not really, as most internet trolls are probably no life and fat. And "doing battle" with them only makes one the same. Blocking is the sensible thing.

Just find the hypocrisy very amusing.

To block or not to block, that is the question.

Wether it's better in one's mind to suffer the outrageous barbs of others,

Or take action by blocking them.

And by opposing them, to block and then to post about it

(It's a slow day today . . .)
