Can a teenager increase his IQ

I meant that acknowledging your current IQ already makes you smarter. Lots of people let their high IQ go to their head.

MMTMOT has admitted to being underage, and I will no longer converse with him. I refuse to interact with children.

I refuse to speak to childish adults.

And I could dissect this post in a similar way. To begin with, notice the second sentence is not germane, and is also unrelated to the first sentence.

  Ok.....but I was thinking.....why does MMTMOT have a bullit rating of 1127......and a FIDE rating of 2900...??

Sure he's an unlikable goofball, but his posts have at least some level of precision.

BTW the person I admired most for precise language on chess.com was @thegrobe

Too bad he hasn't logged in (at least AFAIK) for 2 years.

And I'll stop picking on you @saberspeed77, because it's not just you, it's everywhere.

When so many of the posts I read are garbage it causes to me say the bar is set depressingly low...

Sure Ziryab fired back at me for saying so, but probably only because my troll topics offended his delicate sensibilities tongue.png

Alright, I am going to try this one more time! If you have a low IQ and you accept that as your starting point, that makes you intelligent enough to be self-aware. Some people who sport high IQs love to brag about it. They are being ignorant to the fact that they can still learn more about the world around them. Then again, this would also support the opinion of IQ tests being inaccurate towards some degree. Some people might train their mind or what not to score better on these tests. if that's what you want to be proud of. I feel like engagement is a more valuable skill then intelligence, at least in a community.

(Don't be too objective please, I'm only 15, have some mercy, lol).

You're a reasonable person and it was rude of me to insult you. Sorry about that happy.png

Speaking of teenagers with low IQ........get a load of this guy. He writes a letter to the State Senate of New York threatening to conduct a slow roll on the interstate.    He's a few french fries shy of a happy meal......I mean WHO does that for god's sake?

Yeah, I mean, I've disagreed with him before.

But I wish I had half of his motivation lol tongue.png

Mariners234, so how in the world did you get a rating of 1876? I am actually new to chess and have no idea what I am doing.

When I first became interested in chess, 17 years ago, I played every single day for about 3 years. That's not a bad way to start. I also read books and went to OTB tournaments.

If you want my advice for noobies in the USA, first of all I say google your state's name + chess association to find local clubs. If you can, join a club and go to OTB tournaments.

As for books, there are many options, but you can't go wrong with Seirawan's Winning Chess series. Get a tactics book and an endgame book, or a tactics book and a strategy book. Don't waste much time with openings other than the opening principals.

Just to remind some people, IQ is proportional to age. So a 10 year old and a 20 year old can both an have IQ of 100 even though the 20 year old is smarter and answered more test questions correctly.

Also the IQ test was designed with the goal of testing some kind of innate intelligence, i.e. an attribute you can't increase.

However because tests are imperfect, sure, you can study and do e.g. memory work to increase your IQ.

Avatar of SaberSpeed77

Of course, a teenager can increase his IQ. By studying similar material that will be on that IQ test. However, doing so will disrupt the test's accuracy. Do you know what I mean?

It’s true that you shouldn’t really prepare for an IQ test.

Should I do Chess puzzles to improve? I can play on the bus to school.

That would work.

Solving puzzles is good.

Be sure to review the puzzles you failed. Understand why your intended solution didn't work, and look at the solution until you can convince yourself that it is truly correct.

After a few days try any puzzles you failed again.

Don't spend more than 5-10 minutes on a single puzzle, but also don't go so quickly that you're guessing. Try to spend at least a few minutes on a puzzle (unless it's so easy you know the answer immediatly).

If you do that, you'll learn a lot of tactical patterns, and build some good calculation habits, which is extremely useful.

Lol. Some jerk moderator decided to delete all of my posts, but not the posts of the people who have been responding to me? There is no logic in this moderator. This shows the average IQ of this forum which is below 90.

Apparently you didn't realize you got reported...
