Unlike Belgium, which (for about 300 years) was periodically ruled by either the French, or the Germans, depending on who won their last war.
Now Belgium houses the emerging capital of Europe. Given enough time, (another 50 years perhaps), and everyone will come round to that way of thinking.

Belgium is recognised by some of the major powerbases (Countries)in the world as a country. It has a capital,It has it's own flag,it has a royal family, it has a parliament and on and on...

I guess the difference between Catalonian flag and the flag typically called the Confederate flag or the Nazi flag is that the latter tend to be associated with pro-slavery and racist movements of the highest egregiosity. I'm not really sure what the Catalonians did but I don't think it is quite that nefarious.
Slavery, of course, was a terrible thing. Don't see how people in this day and age can be pro secession when we all know that even aside from slavery the US could never survive as 50 separate states.
