Chess.com Fog of War Championship 2024: Official Discussion Thread

Well GMs are pretty strong indeed, there's no denying!
What I like about playing in the community championships is the opportunity to face both equal but also strong opponents. It's always nice to get paired vs a super player, to have the opportunity of playing someone pretty strong, albeit in a setup which even dim allows for odds of an upset that is playing such variants, and not the usual chess where obviously I'd get undoubtedly demolished.
But then again that's just me! My personal opinion hehe
About the advertisement I agree you have a point though!
Nonetheless it's a bliss watching variants experts at play, for example you have tons of GMs which do specialize in one or another variant, and then you have @DragonB70 which is an absolute monster in mostly all of them!
One point for playing and having fun, plus opportunity to face great chess names, and as a bonus even if you don't qualify you get to witness such variants mastery unfold in all chaotic yet entertaining games.
why dont they just advertise this in the official titled players club
The arenas are open for everyone!
I don't see any join button on the qualifiers listed here:

It's the spookiest month of the year, and with it comes the sixth and scariest event of the 2024 Chess.com Community Championships: The Fog of War Championship will be happening October 17-18 and will treat a $2,000 prize fund to the trickiest ones who make it to the Finals.
Fog of War is a chess variant where a fog takes over the chessboard, and players can only see the squares to which their pieces can move. This variant went viral in 2020 after it first came to Chess.com, with creators like GM Hikaru Nakamura, IM Levy Rozman, and IM Eric Rosen publishing multiple videos playing it. Since then, it has remained a fan favorite.
Now, it's your turn to embrace the unknown and prove that you're not scared to play in the dark. Join any of the eight arena qualifiers on October 17 to overcome the shadows and try to claim your spot in the Finals happening the day after!
Each qualifier is a 75-minute arena with a blitz time control. Make sure you're a member of the Chess.com Community club to take part in the event, and note that registrations open one hour before the event starts.
Players of all levels are welcome to participate. Last month, IM Nhat Minh To defeated Rosen to claim the title of Chess.com Duck Chess Champion. Can you join him and other players like GMs Andrew Tang, Vladimir Fedoseev, Luca Moroni, Awonder Liang, and Jeffery Xiong to become a Chess.com Community Champion?
Watch the live finals broadcast on our Twitch and YouTube community channels.
