Chess.com Feature Requests and Wishlist #3

Thanks Erik for a terrific place to play chess. Improvements are always welcome but for my needs the site works terrific as it is. All I want to do is push wood, or whatever it is the pieces are made of, and this site gives me that plus a lot more when I've got time to explore.

great idea and one i would like to see but i fear the overheads will be out of proportion to the benefit
The alerts we currently get tell us HOW MANY new posts we haven't read in a discussion we are tracking. If there was a way to reference individual posts (rather than just a whole page of them), the existing alert could then include a link to the first unread post. One difficulty with a LAST READ POST button is that it would have to be maintained separately for every user on every discussion (that they are tracking).
On a separate point:
The list of 26 committed features is easily accessible (in the first post in this discussion).
The 200 or so subsequent ideas are more difficult to review. How about a NEW TOPIC where all of these latest proposals are listed within a single post (numbered for easy reference, grouped by similarity and sorted by priority)?
Any takers?

In live chess... it'd be nice to see the opening named somewhere on the side while the game is being played... it'd help with learning the opening names anyways :).

Erik is nothing is not efficient. Click on your name (at the top right of the Homepage) to take you to your Personal Profile. Click on My Online Chess settings (under My Account). Scroll down to Board Settings. Highlight 'show algebraic co-ordinates' - and Hey Presto! - this request can be removed from Erik's list.
Board Settings

Been out of the loop for a bit so I don't know if this has been mentioned or not but being able to spawn an analysis board that picks up the position and history of any of the puzzle, game or diagram boards in the forums would be great.

A link to return to the page you were viewing after login. I was checking out this page when I signed in. I needed it to find it the long way. A type of thing similar to Wikipedia, such as "Return to [pagename]"

a column where you can ask experts question and receive answers
this would be to include the others suggestions included with your premium membership
thank you tony (antne003)

In the message forums on other sites, there is an option to "see all posts by this user." At the moment, when you click on someone's "activity" here, you only see the threads that they started. It would be nice to see all posts that this person has made in other threads as well. I wouldn't want this to show up in "my tracked activity" cuz it would get too full too fast, but it would be nice to be able to quickly access this feature.

Paying service : analyze my pre-annotated game by a professional coach - with a publishing option on the site.
For example :
1) I submit a private pre-annotated OTB game to a professional coach I like on the site. He analyzes the game and gives recommendations - I pay for this service (maybe 30$) and chess.com gets a % (maybe 5-7%).
2) The coach thinks the game has some instructive value and makes a proposal to write an article - if I agree and chess.com agree, chess.com may give me some $$ back for the game to be published.
Access to coach service is available to all members, access to published annotated games is for premium members only

I enjoy the simplicity of this site...too many radical changes will alter that for me....but...strive to build a better mouse trap....change is a part of life

This can be achieved, to a certain extent, using Google's advanced search option. Googling for "billium248 site:www.chess.com/forum" locates all the topics Billium248 has either written or been mentioned in. To restrict it to just the ones Billium248 has written, use "by billium248" site:www.chess.com/forum".
The most detailed level of resolution for topic contributions (both within Forum Search and via Google) is down to the containing page - about ten or so postings. Chess.com currently supports tracking of Topics on a per user basis. If it offered tracking of individual postings instead, the number kept track of would increase, probably by a factor of 5 .. 10.

Hi, I'd like it if I could customize my current games view. If I was able to I would put the people who are currently on line near the top rather than by how long they have to move. Thanks.

This is just another (idiomatic) way of saying: "Erik IS very efficient".
While I have no way of knowing whether Erik personally implemented this feature, I am referring to Erik as the personification of chess.com.
To avoid confusion, I should have written: "Chess.com is very efficient. The feature you requested (labelling the board with the alpha and numerical annotation) already exists."
Tactics trainer:
Hello, recently getting a gold account via an unexpected gift, I've just started using your tactics trainer! However, I'm a big fan of using a rating range (as I think simpler problems are better for chess development then complicated ones). The problem is that I don't have any means to chart my progress!
I want to be able to (ideally) see some sort of progress chart (how much faster am I going then the average time?) But this is a little much to ask. I would at least like to see a record of all the unrated questions I did, as this helps me train tactically.
An easier way for a 14 year old australian to get membership! I've been trying to for ages but unfortunately my parents are the extremely conservitive type when it comes to paying online or through mail so i usually take care of my own online financial issues (as i to do not trust mail) but there is no way for me to pay online with my standard online banking account.

paul211, can you summarize the suggestions made in pages 1-11 that are NOT on the list i first posted? then i'll take those and lock this thread and start a #4. i'll also prioritize :)

I realize that you have already cleared this up but,
I believe he meant "Erik is nothing IF not efficient." which is quite different than "Erik is nothing is not efficient." I could be wrong... I don't know much about England and popular phrases there. but it is popular in america to emphasize someone's strengths by saying that "(The persons name) is nothing if not (the person's strength)." Not to beat a dead horse! (Which is not to be redundant.)
I have a few ideas about how to improve the site... Am I welcome to post them here? I realize this thread is rather bloated and may be impossible to navigate. Should I wait? Is there an updated list somewhere in this thread?
Anthony

triple the size of reader box in chess mentor - already got a pair of glasses trying to see it - try reading 2 paragraphs of annotations on a 2.5" square and come away with anything than more confused - only complaint - and i don't need glasses i say - just a bigger screen...have i already asked for this?... jeez how bout can i stop getting old?

If someone's getting ready to update the list, let me post here the updates from my original request: The Tournament Trophy shelf in the Trophy Showcase is done. It looks awesome!! Custom Trophies show up in the Trophy Showcases as they are supposed to (again looking awesome)!! Take these off the list.
All that's left is to display the Custom Trophies on the Tournament Homepage from the moment the tournament is created, so that they can be used as inspiration for registration. At the moment, they are not even visible on the Tournament Homepage after they are won. A silly little bug has them displayed as the normal Gold, Silver, Bronze medals.
