Chess.com Titles?

Ok guys, I have an actual question this time. I've noticed a number of people with the titles, FM, GM, etc. It looked normal until I saw inconsistent ratings between them (GM having 2350, CM with 2300, etc.) So, does anyone know the criteria for certain titles for Chess.com? If so, please reply. Any answer is appreciated! Thanks!

Those are people with actual titles in real life.  To get them acknowledged by chess.com, they had to send in documented proof that they are who they said they are and that they legitimately have the title.  It has nothing to do with their chess.com rating.

Chess.com doesn't award titles.  They do verify existing titles and give titled players free diamond and a few other perks though.  As you might imagine, many titled players use chess.com to relax and don't really give a sh#t what their ratings are here.  Hope that cleared it up for you.

Late again. Laughing

Ooohhh I get it now, that makes a lot of sense actually. I thought I heard somewhere that the ratings system was different, I was still wondering how there were the titles. Thanks for telling me 😄

One last question then- do you know the ratings needed for those titles?

IM- 2400
FM- 2200

Qualifying Titles

GM - Grandmaster

WGM - Woman Grandmaster

IM - International Master

WIM - Woman International Master

FM - FIDE Master

NM - National Master

CM - FIDE Candidate Master

If you aren't a woman, the requirements, barring an automatic title, are

GM - To have at least once reached 2500 FIDE with at least 27 games at a tournament performance rating of at least 2599.5 in the form of at least two norms and at least 35% performance at a FIDE rated event run by an IA or FA and at least 1/3 with a minimum of 3 opponents holding the GM title.

IM - To have at least once reached 2400 FIDE with at least 27 games at a tournament performance rating of at least 2449.5 in the form of at least two norms and at least 35% performance at a FIDE rated event run by an IA or FA and at least 1/3 with a minimum of 3 opponents holding the IM or GM title.

FM - 2300 FIDE

CM - 2200 FIDE

NM - In the USCF, this requires a rating of 2200. For other countries, see your federation's regulations on this title.

For WGM and WIM, drop the rating and tournament performance ratings by 200 and note that opponents with IM can count for the WGM and WIM titles.
