Computer Analysis

I used it on one of my recent games and it's nice but not very helpful. It came up with 7 inaccuracies, 1 mistake, and 0 blunders (which is very good for me) but I don't know which moves were the mistakes or inaccuracies so I don't know where to make improvements.

The move list for my game had marks at the end of questionable moves, should be the same with you

MrZugzwang

I got a report saying that several moves were questionable along with a percentage, but not the actual moves.  There was no move list returned.  Am I the only one?

Same for me MrZugswang, no move list

I don't find the chess.com computer analysis all too helpful. It tells you where you made a "mistake" and gives a recommended line, but that's about it. I have my own engine which gives multiple lines with evaluations, and I can go back and forth to see how they play out. (And its estimated ELO is over 2800.)

I guess the chess.com engine is helpful if you don't have your own engine to rely on. But there is clear room for improvement.

The engine has been dumbed down for us non premium members. If you are premium I think it's ELO is 2400. That should be enough for the vast majority.

Two quick questions:

1) Is it a calendar week, or a week from your previous use?

2) Do they accumulate?  So, if you don't use one this week, can you do two next week?

Thanks,

Mike

answers to a few questions:

1. they don't accumulate and are on a rolling schedule.

2. we use the latest crafty (with top rating at around 2700) and search depths of 8, 10, and 12 depending on membership level.

3. we will add more analysis as we get the bugs worked out and get more hardware. :) we will probably be doubling the amount allowed now.

enjoy!

double? wow. You guys are truly awesome. You deserve a standing applause *starts clapping*

"The way in which the analysis is displayed is very nice, is there any way for your opponent to see the analysis too? Seems silly both of you requesting the same game to be analysed?"

The commentary for each person is slightly different. That said, if you request it and your opponent does two, we only have to process the game (the time/resource intensive part) once. :)

"Excellent stuff! This site is just leagues ahead of all the other pretenders!"

Awwww shucks :) This is pretty unique, I'll admit it ;)

It's pretty speedy, I used it once so far and it got to me within a day.  However, it does have its limitations.  I'm a gold member so it was assumably operating at the 2200 level, as it says.  For analysis I chose a particularly tactically complex game that I had already checked through and analysed on my own many times.  I already knew this game inside and out, all of the mistakes, and everything.  I basically picked this game to test the computer to see just how good it would be, out of curiosity.  Lo and behold, one of the moves it recommended to me would have given my opponent a forced mate combo about 8 or so moves deep (I saw the mate combo during the actual game though!).  So the lesson is, while it's a useful new feature for the site, make sure to double check on your own.

I should note though that the computer did manage to find one extremely clever little positional move that I missed during the game, and my opponent, a very strong player, actually pointed out to me later in the chat.

i'm REALLY shocked it missed a mate in 8. it should see it since your level is depth 10. can you message me the game?

I got my first analysis... no problems. ;)

Add me to that list.  I wasted my first analysis on a game that didn't need it just cuz it was the first time I saw the feature, and didn't know how it worked yet.  Live and Learn!!  Hey, what's this shiney red button do...?  Wink

I do not understand this, it tells me I made blunders but does not show me where or let me check the game in any way.

zeeyee

i used it once and the analysis showed my mistakes.  good for learning chess!

Wow, this is great stuff for a stats nerd like me.  I love analyzing backgammon games and now I can do the same for chess. Laughing  I just analyzed a game and see that I had a few inaccuracies and many many mistakes. Embarassed What exactly does that mean?  Also, there is a number assigned to each move in parentheses.  I assume + means white is winning and - means black is winning.  Correct?

Thanks!

Like I posted on the feature request page, it would be nice to get an alert when one week has elapsed since the last computer analysis so that we can initiate another one!
