Considering Small Redesign to Chess.com - Thoughts?

Sort:
brfc

it makes it more sleek and a lot more appealing! Great design!!!

littlehotpot

Why does it say that you are logged in but it still gives you the chance to sign in on the front page. This may confuse some people

I like it Erik,

I have a coupled of ideas to make the page "looks more attractive" but i guess these will not "fit" with the "standarts" of the page

feel free to suggest!

yes, this design is meant to be a subtle move forward, not a dramatic change.

You said that because you hadn't heard the foolish things I've prepared...

but you may want to change the photo from the live chess page...

When this is from? I've never seen it looking like this...myspace smiley

Edit: really, I like it, if not i would say something like c'mon! or so...

I like it. Especially the green header instead of the current boring, cold, grey one. The background might be a bit warmer tone instead white which is sort of harsh for the eyes. Yellow/tan/woodlike such as #FFFF99 or similar, which would accompany the green, might be a bit softer.

Anyway.Go for it, I say.

Teja

Much more attractive concept. Less clutter - no opening of the day etc, no surveys. Boxing the home page within a dark frame gives a look of strength and orderly arrangement.

I guess that things will not disappear, just he doesn't use a screen large enough to capture the full page.

I don't know if the page will display the botton

without need of scroll down, that looks fine but i think i have not seen it anywhere before so maybe it's not possible
Thijs

not sure if this would be too much work, but it would also be nice if you could select the items you want to have shown on the frontpage... like some may not read blogs, while others are not interested in chess news, and others never watch the videos or go to the forums... it would be great if you could select your own layout in your settings or something.

as for the small changes, I think it looks better that way :)

Yes.

I agree with this as well.

Also, and this is a subtle point: darker images use less power.  Just the environmentally-friendly part of me speaking.

See blackle.com.

It's fine- neither good nor bad. It's just a simple face lift so any changes every onece in a while are definately welcome.

RandolphNewman

Subtle but nice. Definitely thumbs up.

Actually, with modern LCD monitors, lighter colors use less energy.

See brightle.com.

As for the original topic, I think the new design looks nice, though personally I don't really care.

I like it. It's much cleaner and sleeker. That's the main thing I think chess.com can work on, layout and design

harry_usa

From a marketing point of view, it "pops".  Stands out much better and will get people's attention.

frank713

Looks interesting and that's good! :-) Mahalo!

WindowsEnthusiast

I like it.

electricpawn

Looks good. Go for it.

BigOto

What does the "Isn't it time?" button do in the upper right corner of the page?

Knightguy

Its for me an improvement in that it is functionally easier on my own eyes, of course that is just me.

I agree. It's still nice and not much different looking than what it is now.
