Forum's Quality

To be honest, as a rule I really don't like unrelated pictures (the vulpes/fox picture an exception), videos and other clutter, but I also know that many, many people do, so I can live with it pro bono publico. Most of my own posts tend to be on the serious side so I try to balance seriousness with levity or word-play, but there's no way of knowing how successfully. Generally most threads go off on tangents - some for better, some for worse; some involve elucidation, some entertainment, some a waste of precious time. Forum threads, to me, are like those mystery grab bags some stores sell where sometime you get something neat, sometimes a sinkhole for your money. The only things I really can't abide in forum threads are mean and nasty posters.

Yeah, I like what batgirl said (even though she went all Latin on us in there for a second). I must say though that I (for one) almost never post an unrelated picture. Still, I do find that chessplayers (being a generally humorless lot) will often tend to miss the connections...but that is another matter entirely.

Certainly with time, compounded knowledge, along with easy access to previous threads, make for less and less, new interesting topics.
Then there is the subjectivity factor...
Also I have noticed a decline in activity. Hence, maybe it appears as if there is less good content also.
I will blame the Olympics somewhat too...

It's the pits here.
I've seen the ebb and flow of quality, but "correcting" the repeat offenders and recurring offenses is no longer an opportunity for some funny creativity, with the ban on pics and off-topic responses.
There have been some pretty nice runs. Some very funny, warm, pic spamming too.
Can't do that now.
We seem stuck in the same old now, despite the quality contributions by batgirl et al.
It's abyssmal. So, who wins q v. 3 knights? I insist you praise my immortal game and name the opening after me. Mind if I use the forums as a pm to chat unintelligibly to some unknown member?

+1

You missed the whole last page of the thread - earlier this afternoon it was covered in voluptuous, sensual, eyecatching imagery. The graphics conveyed both a sense of playfulness and irreverence, while posing sophisticated (and not-so-sophitsicated) visual puns to the reader. But where was I?... oh yeah, totally knights over bishops.

Over my head too.
Chess.com is a friendly community. We try to keep it that way by following a common set of rules for posting. The following topics or behaviors are not allowed in the main public forums or chat rooms:
- offensive/vulgar language
- personal attacks
- religious or political debate
- spammy/pointless/distracting posts
- hijacking of threads with off-topic posts or images
- discussion of illegal activities (drugs, etc)
- advertising competitive sites
- cheating
It seems that in its practical application that mainly famous spammers (flags, conqui, andy) are affected. They risk a quick muzzling if they spam outside off-topic.

Well, I'd imagine "spammy" would have to be over-the-top spammy, or else 90% of the threads would have been laid bare by now; just as "Hijacking with etc." probably doesn't mean "posting" off-topic posts or images but posting enough to seriously impede the flow - or hijacking. In the event that someone is deemed a potential offender, I would imagine the powers-that-be would simply ask them to tone it down, and expect them to comply. Other that that, I think the inclusion of those two lines in the policy is more a safe-guard than an absolute. Erik and most of his employees are really down-to-earth, level headed, pracitcal and understanding people. I've overused my quote of hyphens, dang it.
I'm leaving the forum. Bye!
