Get Off Your Horse And Drink Your Milk

Has anyone managed to integrate a speech program (such as Dragon Naturally Speaking) with chess.com? It would be neat to be able to get a commentary on some aspects of game play e.g.

  • reading the dialogue aloud from the Messages tab
  • reading the moves aloud
  • announcing check (and checkmate)

Regarding selection of voices: it is alleged that one of my opponents 'has the accent of a drunken Texan'. Naturally I would like to reproduce my opponent's voice as accurately as possible in order to achieve the full OTB effect (add in a webcam via Skype perhaps?).

Vista has a built-in speech system called Narrator. (Reads on-screen text, dialog boxes, menus and buttons aloud if speakers or a sound output device are installed) but it's not directly automatable without using a scripting system such as AutoIt.

The UK English version of Dragon Naturally Speaking supports Australian English (aka Strine) so with a little tailoring, it could accommodate kco's conversation.

interesting post. there also so many types of software to speak aloud texts and all stuf if i could remember their names. i remeber one in particular, developed for many languages, spanish, english, italian, french and german, the funny thing is that the software gives you the chance to choose what kind of voice you want to hear with your text. a robot, the voice of a  fly (buzzing), the voice of a ugly grandmother. martian voice and many more. i'll check if i can find it among all the stuff i got. its a really good idea artfizz. one shiny diamond among the piles and plies of coal you give us ;-)

That's right, all that free coal - piles and 'plies' [supplies?] of it.

On a related tack: has anyone used ANY scripting (e.g. WSH, VBScript) with chess.com to achieve ANYthing?
