Has Chess.com given anyone else a virus?

I once hugged a girl from this site and then we both got a cold.
Clearly chess.com has given us both a virus because the only thing we had in common was that we both visited chess.com on the net.

I tried to download an automobile manual (360 pages) and suddenly my firewall said it just blocked or removed 12 viruses. However, ever time I log on I get a brower I didn't ask for. I deleting it in uninstall but it's still there. I need to close that browers to run Google for every new site search. It's frustrating.

It was all over the news yesterday. I sent the link to Erik because he "doesn't get around much any more"
I realize that I'm getting a little off topic with the Regin virus, but I loved watching Steve Gibson's take on the virus in this video podcast. If you're interested in the virus, you'll want to watch the podcast (starting at about 4 minutes and continuing through about minute 49).

My Mac has been rendered almost useless recently. I don't know where I picked up this adware/malware.

I don't know anything about Mac viruses, but I stumbled onto "The Safe Mac" site, and it looks interesting. No guarantees, though.

If a malicious ad does sneak onto the site via an ad server, how will the user know when he got the virus or even if he got it from Chess.com? Also, how will he know which ad is malicious? I don't think the ads say, "Hi, I'm your friendly malicious ad!" You might be paying out quite a few 1-month memberships, but I think the 1-year membership offer is a fairly safe bet from your end. (Not because you won't be getting any malicious ads, but because they're mostly unidentifiable by the users.)

Using a virus scanner will certainly help. Brute force approach: set it up to scan everything that comes from the internet. There is a real chance to identify URIs of malicious contents.

I can't fill out your form because the problem is on my mobile phone. The advert for REISS is a pain. It starts at the bottom of the page, I click the X to get rid of it. It comes back every time then moves up the page and is in the centre of the screen. It's been doing it for some time now. My mobile is a Samsung Galaxy S4.

try to report it anyway with a screenshot or very good description! is it in the mobile APP, or mobile website?

Macs are indeed known for not having problems with marware/viruses/adware. This is the first problem I have had in eight years. However, that is because most of the malware is written for PCs, since Apple has a much lower market share. One can design a virus to target Macs, but you don't see it often because the people who create malware want to hit the large market share -- all the PCs. Also, Macs have protection built-in to the OS and browsers.
I bought my MacBook Pro new in 2006 and the hardware is so old that I am not longer able to upgrade my OS. Ergo, I cannot upgrade my browers etc. Due to all of this, I don't have the latest security protectection on my system, and I can't ever get it. Time for a new Mac.

Thanks for your reply.
It's on the mobile website. I couldn't get a photo of it halfway up the screen, I wasn't quick enough. It jumps up the screen then drops to the bottom again. The X only clears it for a few seconds, then it's back again. It really is annoying. It's been like it for about a week now.
Edit....I tried to fill in the form but I think I messed it up.
Sounds like you need a college degree to even spell half the computer terms, let alone operate the thing.
Yeah, the disadvantage of Windows. I guess you could get a Chromebook and just powerwash it if you ever got in over your head.
