Have Staff Mods destroyed the forums?

unmoderated doesn't mean snitches won't snitch

What are you, 12?  Who uses the word "snitches" as a mature adult?  That word only means something when you are a kid trying to get away with stuff you shouldn't be doing anyway.

Bet you staff are going to delete that for mentioning the word a**hole.

Unfortunately, being part of the pic we can't really edit it like we would in a normal post - personally, I think it's sufficiently low range and relevant within this specific context that I doubt that any of the Moderators would act on it - the Support team might if someone feels strongly enough about it to report it via a ticket.

I actually wish the cartoon didn't use the word myself.  That being said...for some reason, this particular cartoon seems to be much more successful in informing people misusing the concept of "free speech" than just posting a definition/diatribe about what free speech actually entails.  That is probably simply because it is a cartoon, which is a sad commentary on the state of society ;).

Several people, actually more that several, seem very adamant that what started as a political thread has evolved into something else and something worth preserving.  So I've unlocked  the Brexit thread based upon that.   I can't promise it will stay that way but as of now I'm considering it "the exception that proves the rule".

It's still a political Thread.

Either the Site changes its policy or Threads are properly moderated, otherwise credibility continues to be lost.

Why have political threads been locked recently?

Correct me if my memory fails me, but didn't we have erik on here a few years ago, saying that anything goes (within obvious limits), and threads wouldn't be locked if they didn't get nasty?

Have I remembered correctly?

p.s. ... because this habit of summarily closing threads without good reason, is how naughty children are treated, not paying members.

The reason is that there are some posted guidelines that say political and religious discussion are not allowed in the forums at all. There are some other posts that say Off-Topic is lightly moderated, a description on the forum in v2 that says it is unmoderated and some posts, in various other places, that imply, if not specifically state, that those subjects are fine if it doesn't get out of hand.

The thing is, rules sometimes change and sometimes it isn't 100% clear what the current state is. Confused yet? tongue.png

If you took it a bit more seriously the Forums may even improve...

I'm just a moderator and have to go by what I posted and my own judgement of those posted items along some additional guidelines by the staff that interact with moderators.

I don't make policy and while I am free to make suggestions, I only have the guidelines to go by. My postings about how things are is not really a reflection of my level of moderation seriousness. I do this in my spare time, as a voluntary effort.

Here's an idea... find out.

Find out what the bleeping rules are, publish them, then enforce them.

The current state of affairs is completely and utterly unsatisfactory.

UndecidedSo,   can we get my CNN thread open again?  Its not religious, or political. ITS NEWS!!Yell  Nobody got nasty. We had a hell of an anchor team and we were about to hire Gretchin Carlson. Smile

Honestly, this place is run like amateur hour at the asylum.

Unfortunately this isn't an amateur concern, we're paying for it.

Avatar of Carla-Magnusson

Well, some of us are paying for it.

I think some clarity is called for.

Erik did come on here saying Off Topic would be unmoderated and uncensored, so if that has changed then everyone needs to know.

Avatar of Doggy_Style

Okay, enough moaning from me, I've taken matters into my own hands.

My premium membership will expire on 21st july 2016, and won't be renewed until things improve.

Job done.

Avatar of Carla-Magnusson

I think an improvement would be if non-paying members were more limited, so trolls cannot on creating more and more stupid posts.

Play for a month before you can post.

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

" so if that has changed".         lol.Smile  And there's the rub. Or the illusion. Like the police shootings, you give the protesters just enough to shut them up for awhile. Eric will come on and say, "oh, I'll look into it".  Nothing will change.Frown  A lot of us don't pay any more.  Besides this thread, you have 3 other threads about the death of the forums.

Avatar of Carla-Magnusson

Well, lets not blow it out of proportion,  its a great site, and the mods generally do a good job.
