Higher Rated Players

Hi everybody, I am relatively new to playing chess, and I have a reading at around 450 or so most of the time. Recently people with high ratings have been challenging me. I like to play with everyone, but I would like to ask that we play unrated games at first if you want to Play me. If you have a reading over 1000, or even around 800, I think it's an unfair disadvantage to me to play a rated game. Yet I would like to play with you. Thank you exclamation

I would like to know what people think about this.

Why would it be a disadvantage? If anything, the player with the higher rating has more to lose, rating-wise, if they fail to win the game and you should lose less. Generally it is the higher rated player that want unrated games against players with a lot lower rating to eliminate that rating loss.

Mr. Stahl sums it up well,

Isabella. The higher your opponent is, the better the lesson will be; and, it does not get any cheaper than that.  The high rated player risks much, you, only lose a point or two, but stand to gain big for a victory.  It is not just the points you can win, but you have a permanent record of your victory for everyone to see:  Bragging rights.  They have to explain how they got beat by a player rated 700 points less.  lol  When you get a "Big Gun"  be thankful, they did not get rated that high by being foolish.  You most likely have a player who wants to help, likes to instruct, so pick their heads.  Some extra etiquette tips that could help.  Always thank them all day long.  Do not be afraid to ask them things.  "I know your busy but could you please explain why you did that, or what did you gain from that".  They almost always will be happy to tell you as they know they are going to smoke you at will.  Try not to waste their time frivolously.  If you are beaten, badly, thank them for the game and let them know that you have no positioning and no chance, so I am just wasted your time, and politely resign.  The other side is, ask them if they would not mind playing for a few more moves, I think I can learn a lot from your end game, I will resign if it is hopeless or I feel I am just wasting your time.  Be a good sport, always.  Many of these big guns are very busy, do not be offended if they do not want to have a Sunday dinner discussion with you.  I made this mistake myself.  If it was just a fluke of a game and he was a jerk. be polite, Thank him and PM me (personal message), and I will teach you how to block someone.  Last, in your settings, you can control the range of the people you want to play.  Set rating limits, number of games they have played limits, even the time frame you wish to play in,  If you need help with this please, please, and I mean this, do not hesitate to call on Martin_Stahl!  LOL.  Kidding, get a hold of me I love teaching.

With Sincerity;

BIG K!!!
