it won't fall out, it'll make you sick. don't put it off. it's not one of those things you can ignore.

Wouldn't it like turn black over time tho' ?

BTW, TY Martin for your input........

martinchess1

it can, but that is the least of your worries.

AussieMatey

You should book in and get it fixed up - the best time is usually toothurty.

thegreat_patzer

yeah being serious.  whats it called again, when the a rots starts to happen within your gum?  Abscess

it can cause blood infection and even strangulation

I don't know too much about it.  but its serious business and the warning from people who know, that tooth decay is to be taken seriously

I just lost but my pain temp-subsided. Tho' now I'm confuzed between the comments from Martin & you.

I know it can't be a good thing....as the name implies.

A rotten tooth by your brain ?....root canal ?....I mean if u told a kindygardener that they were giving out free root canals at skool that child would say "I'm not going".

The_Ghostess_Lola

I have a appointment in 3 hours. That's the soonest they can get me in.

In the meantime, I'll keep playing chess off & on. It really entruly helps !!

thegreat_patzer

I confused You?

ok.  I'm thinking Martin is a dentist. if so, his comments should be taken seriously.

he told you to go to a dentist, and that a black tooth was just the least of your problems.   I'm not a dentist, but when I have been tempted; people (dentists, friends, my wife) that to ignore the threat of an abscess seems serious.

I believe a rotten tooth is the biggest cause of abscess..

I'll say one other thing;  about a year ago I was in agony from a tooth related pain.  I promptly went to a my dentist who checked it carefully and found nothing.  the clue was that the pain wasn't in the same tooth (all the time) though the pain was very real and almost unbearable.

that introduced me to a new ailment.

see "an illustrative story"

http://thedentalwarrior.com/2012/08/27/when-a-toothache-isnt-a-toothache-being-a-real-doctor/

it is called "trigeminal neurolgia"... its like a defective nerve to the teeth and it hurts like crazy.

You learn these things not in Medical school but in the lessons of life.

martinchess1

you'll be fine, i wouldn't embark on the root treatment unless your dentist has time, antibiotics will help today and you can deal with it tomorrow, friday or even next week. if the nerve was still alive and irreversibly inflamed, beginning today would be appropriate, however the clue is in the pain with heat, and relief with cold. choking is very rare and can occur when the inflammation from lower tooth infections cross the midline. a ludwig's angina.

The_Ghostess_Lola

TGP, I was in less than (3) months ago and they found nothing....nada. They zapped me w/ a x-ray & everything.

Yet it hurt.....warning one !

Then I just read that once your tooth starts dying ?....there's bascially nothing they can do. So prepare for services.

Think of your other teeth. Just like ppl. My other 27 teeth are gonna show up for the funeral (not by choice !) & their biggest fear is they hope they're not next !

Martin, TY once again Smile . As a sidenote, the pain seems like it's floating around from tooth to tooth....but I know who the troublemaker is & we'll fix her ($1000 later Undecided ).

Time for some chess to help subside.

thegreat_patzer

good luck lola. as always a pleasure.

you did the right thing to get an appointment. do whatever it takes to deal with the pain.  even losing a chess  game is Nothing compared to losing one of the dear friends of folks the "unpack and organize" the food.

at some point in your little less young age; you have to temp it out.  and the temp groups (the "denture" corporation) aren't as good at the job.

Sometimes my friend all you have to do is use dental floss ..having some food stuck can irritate the gums and tooth.. tie a knot in the floss.

The_Ghostess_Lola

I so wish u were right. But I had a dying tooth ( & then a root canal) some years ago and the pain was just like this. Right now, I'm sipping ice water to relieve.

The thing I hate the most is there's no ecstacy after the agony.

(....don't say it....)

ANOK1

warm saline (salt water) swill around gum thats tender , do not swalow though ,

other good option  clove oil rub on gum , this is a great little herbal easing of the pain

ANOK1

these two work for me ghostess although warm salt water is very different to ice water , so maybe thats not for you

The_Ghostess_Lola

I tried warm salty water already and I just about went thru the ceiling. I did a flying dive onto my bed & squeezed my head with my akimboed arms.

I'm chewing gum right now on my right side. It's a non-event. Strawberry Starburst Smile .

Ice water swilled right on the agitator seems to help alot.
