Old Thread: IMPORTANT Change Coming to Vacation Use!

My opponent has somehow managed to roll back his clock again.  11 hours ago he was down to 2 days and 4 hours for his move, and now it's back to 2 days and 18 hours again.  That's the fourth time now since my most recent move that almost a full day has been added back onto his clock.  Every time it gets down to close to 2 days remaining for his move, it jumps back up to 3 days remaining and starts counting down again.  It's now been 5 days since my move and the current reading has only 6 hours lopped off his initial 3 day clock.  For most of this 5 day period he hasn't been on vacation, and 4 days ago he was down to only 2 days of vacation remaining.

Must be one of those secret diamond member perks!

I had pointed out same thing about 5 days back. There seems to be no answer forthcoming. I am going to stop tracking this topic for some time now as I keep getting alerts but there is nothing new coming out.

Presumably you've both reported this anomaly to Support directly?

Yes, good luck to Kacparov.A true vacationer for the best of reasons! When do these world champs take place so I can follow his progress. As far as this topic goes I think we just have to wait for the changes and see if it alters the behaviour of players.
Kacparov

They are in 1 month 3 weeks, I guess I will post a link when I go off. Thanks everyone :)

"Minmum" of one day? What's the maximum time available for vacation?

90 days.

1 second.

Previously: if you went on vacation for 5 seconds, then 5 seconds was subtracted from your vacation allowance.

Now: if you go on vacation for 5 seconds, then 1 day is subtracted from your vacation allowance. All vacations UNDER A DAY are rounded up to 1 day.

Simple!

i wouldn't call it simpe.

if that was true, there wouldn't be any need for the 18 pages of comments... including mine.

There probably isn't any need for 18 pages of comments (including yours).

The concept is simple. Most of the comments are either agreeing or disagreeing with the policy.

Cystem_Phailure

I'm sure there were some people who didn't think it was simple.  Always remember, half the people on the planet have lower than average intelligence . . . Cool

Agree with last post there ARE many legitimate reasons but we are talking about repeated almost malicious abuse of the vague vacation rules. More tournament directors should step in and adjudicate some almost meaningless games which are holding up the progression to the next round. Again c-re-action you are right about this site being the best. All we need is it for it to be the best this side of Jupiter!!
Cystem_Phailure

I also agree chess.com's the best on this side of Jupiter.  The chess server based on Titan is better in a lot of ways, but that lag time is something awful! Cool

cocteau
Lol, maybe they should be using a pulsar all those radiowaves migh get us up to 1000mps!! We could just use Titan as a relay!
Cystem_Phailure

We might be able to increase the bandwidth, but I don't think we can do much about the transmission speed.  Signal round-trip times to Saturn range from 140 to 180 minutes.  That would be OK for the correspondence chess . . .

cocteau
In the words of Monty Python- "this is getting too silly". But I do believe that one day satellites will use gravitation and wormholes etc in some way we don't know yet to increase speeds of communication. Showing my nerdy tendancies there just a little!!

Giant steps in technology are often first applied to what is then perceived as the most important use.  What could be more important than intergalactic chess?  We could run the games through Erik's anti-cheat algorithm and find out which aliens we can trust.

This thread is the funniest I've been involved in yet. Lol

Will aliens have sufficient intelligence to understand the new vacation rules?

cocteau
I think the answer is 42.

Good point.

I just finished a game with a Uranian.

[edit] Sorry, my bad. Make that Ukranian
