I quote my teammate Panzar below :
"No, you can not see the votes before you have cast your own vote. That was my point. You should be able to. As for the need... well a simple example (remember, most teams don't have discussions like we do and even if they did many vote before any discussion anyway):
Move a) winning, but difficult to see the whole line
Move b) pretty good, but not winning
Move c) looks good superficially but does in fact leads to a loss
Suppose the score is 10 votes for c, 10 votes for b and 2 votes for a with 23 players in the team. If I knew that I wouldn't vote for move a, I would tip the balance to get move b played rather than move c."
Yes, but i believe that it would be better to have your players post the best moves so that you can play a rather than b.
MM78 Yes, I think that's the advantage of vote games between small groups. It's worked out well with Chess Team International. Most of the time we get good discussions and most of the time everyone holds their vote until it's been discussed although there's always someone who still votes prematurely--oh well. I like the vote games best of all because of the discussions as you play. I'd like to see the votes before I vote especially since if the vote is premature or for a poorly conceived move, the rest of us can rally to fix it--ie message all voters who may not have voted. In a small group with a good discussion the actual vote is less relevant as the discussion is everything. Monitoring the vote is most useful to protect against bad votes.
