we've suggested langauges based on 2 factors:
1. number of people who speak those langauges who visit our site
2. ability of those people to speak english (for example, almost all scandanavians speak english, where are few chinese do)

I just want to be able to find my friends when I log into live chess and observe their games if they are playing.

I think you should check with somebody else to make sure the translation is good. Even though Russian is my first language, but I don't speak it as well as a native speaker would. Google translate seems to agree with me, but I don't trust machines when it comes to translating.
Yes! I translated right (but forgot the hyphen)! I Googled it and looked at some Russian websites to make sure I had it right.
Does my translation get to be shiny now?

You could go on and make Spanish and other languages versions of the entire site (except for blogs, forum threads and legal stuff) with help from the Chess.com community. We may start by translating menus and instructions to enjoy the main Chess.com features like Live, Online and Vote Chess, TT, etc., which should be easy.
I bring this up since many of my friends and family who play chess refuse to visit Chess.com more often because they find it difficult to use. I know it's not, but still they prefer Búho! :s

I confirm both the Russian and French translations offered above (I feel I know those languages well enough).
The German translation, though, has problems both in the grammar and in what it says (not quite what Erik asked for).

I don't confirm the French translation, it should be:
Bienvenue dans la salle en français !
(I'm French by the way). Danielle's sentence is grammatically correct but feels like somebody is saying "welcome!" to the French speaking chat room
In German I'd say:
Willkommen im deutschen Raum!
(confirmation by a native speaker needed)
Whoops, thats what I get for having crappy spanish teachers. But anyways, I don't think some people are getting the point here. The rooms don't have to be in use, all thats going to happen is right now they want the welcome message, then when they release the different rooms then the native speakers can do like the English and talk amongst themselves.
I really hope I'm interperting this correctly.
