Give everyone a grace period to pour into their game records and save the PGN of whatever games they choose onto their own system, and then wipe the slate clean and revert everyone to 1200.
Live Chess Stats: A Painful Dilemna...
Wipe everything CLEAN. Ratings, game records, everything! However, give every1 notice 2 WEEKS in advance, before the clean out, in order to allow them to download or save their games . I know 4 a fact that a lot of people, including myself, would not want to keep their old game records. Because of of "bad games" I say a new beginning is a new beginning. If you have a new live chess, have only records of games of the new live chess, where there will supposedly be less disconnections, etc. Secondly, reset the ratings. y? because many people's ratings were badly affected by disconnections in live chess 1. So keeping their "damaged ratings" and carrying it into live chess 2, doesn't make sense. If live chess 2 supposedly will have less dc's. It shouldn't be a probelm 4 top ranked players to make back their high ratings. And people will have a more "accurate" rating next to his/her name, a rating NOT affected by disconnects.
Conclusion :- WIPE IT CLEAN OFF!
Point taken. Ok suggestion. do a survey, by way of sending to every1,a message asking whether o not they want 2 save games. who replies "yes" leave their games. who says "no" delete their games. is that possible to do. erik?
who doesn't reply will have their games kept and will have to contact chess.com,when they return if they want it deleted. simple. lol
I dont know how much simpler to make this. But again...its simply my opinion. Since live chess 2.0 is new i think we should just start from scratch. I look at it as a new beginning for everyone. Keep in mind that my opinion is based on nothing more than its a new start with a new live chess 2.0
Tha'ts fine. So I guess this is your message: "I want all games deleted. Why? I don't know. I have no good reason, it's just my feeling. All I know is that I want the games deleted."
If that's your point, then okay. Meanwhile, other people here are trying to weight benefits and drawbacks of deleting the games so chess.com can make a logical decision. If anyone else here actually has logical reasons for deleting the games (other than "it's a hassle, so delete them"), by all means speak up.
Remember, these are chess.com's own words: "Keep in my mind, we never delete games, so once you subscribe, you will have access to all your old games once again!" Well, so much for that promise...

The only logical reason I can come up with is that the dataset as a whole is beset with a lot of garbage games due to disconnects. As I said, I'm not sure that justifies throwing the baby out with the bathwater though, and surely if this was a problem that absolutely needed to be addressed surely these cames could be selectively culled.

If you didn't want to cull the games, the stats (excepting ratings) could probably also be selectively corrected to discount the disconnected games on record so that there aren't a lot of misleading "best wins" and "worst losses" out there.
I think if you were to do this, correct the problem that always rounds fractional ratings up (meaning you'll never award less than one point) and reset the rating of one individual who's been exploiting this bug you'd get the best of both worlds.

But does it hurt anyone to have those games on record? Just let them sit at the bottom of the pile if you don't want them. Having them there won't hurt anyone.
On the other hand, deletion is permanent. It's not just my games I'm referring to. I sometimes follow interesting games played by other players--do I have to download those games as well? The old games are harmless--they are just sitting there as reference. If you don't want them, that's fine, they won't bother you. They won't send you spam or ask you to analyze them. They are basically invisible unless you actively search them up.
As for resetting ratings, I'm neutral. Either way is okay with me, so I'll leave this part of the debate to those who care.
Ok so that's 2 survey 2 do. 1. who will want their games erased. 2. who wants the ratings reset. And point taken suckerpuncher.

I never got disconnected, nor ever experienced my opponents disconnecting. Still, I'm willing to endure a ratings reset for the benefit of the stability for some chess.com users. Look at me, I'm so noble and altruistic.
Keeping the games makes so much more sense. I'm not even sure why there is a problem.
Thank you. That's exactly what I'm wondering! I've been asking around, but so far these are the only reasons I've heard:
1) I don't want my old games. There are too many disconnections, so they are all garbage. (Then just leave them alone--nobody is forcing you to go through them. They won't bother you. They won't spam you. They won't hurt you. They are basically invisible unless you decide to search them up.)
2) It's a new start, so let's delete everything. (I suspect this is just sentiment--delete the past and get a "fresh start." It makes no logical sense though.)
3) It's just my opinion. I just want to have them deleted. (...huh?...)

after hearing everyone, this is 95% sure: wipe games and stats, keep ratings (rounded down to even 100), reset RD. we'll give everyone notice so they can download their games.
high rd few losses big grade

Agreed.

Agreed.
I also would not like to see games erased.

or if you took the time to read my first post, you would see the reason :)

Erik, assuming there's a way to identify which games were won as a result of a disconnect -- what about the possibility of simply exempting them from the user stats (with the exception of rating, of course) and leaving the actual game history intact? I think turn-based could benefit in the same way from exempting time-outs from the user stats as well.
Also, I think SuckerPuncher333 has a pretty valid point with this quote:
"Keep in my mind, we never delete games, so once you subscribe, you will have access to all your old games once again!"
or if you took the time to read my first post, you would see the reason :)
I actually read over your post many times, but it wasn't at all clear that the only way to reset stats is to also erase the games.
Thing is, virtually nobody here is complaining about the stats. Most of the concerns are about inaccurate ratings and deleted games, with ratings being the number 1 concern.
For me, rating doesn't matter. But i would like to be able to download/replay my older games. Other player's games i don't need.
