Okay
Petition to Make Chess A Sport

All sports cannot be played online. There are no exceptions. That is WHY they are sports. Online activities are virtual. They simulate. They aren't the real thing. Games can be played online because the format doesn't change very much. The internet is just your proxy.
By proxy I mean someone else does it for you. Take solitaire or chess or any other online game. You aren't actually moving any pieces. You tell the internet to do it for you. And it does. The same thing could happen in real life. You could sit down at a table and tell someone else to make your moves for you. Games allow that. It's why gaming is so popular on the internet.
But that's impossible for sports. Sports require YOU actually doing it yourself. No proxy.
I have to disagree because I believe chess is a sport (which can be played online) but since you don't believe chess is a sport, I have to convince you it is for you to believe online sports are possible. But, tbh, I don't want to argue again. Agree to disagree. Good argument. I respect your opinion and you as a person.
ty

I mean, once virtual reality becomes mainstream, you could in theory play sports on VR. But @IfPatriotGames has the best argument probably.

Chess isn't a sport. The dictionary definition of "sport" proves this to be true.
It doesn't matter if it is or isn't a sport, it makes no impact on the activity. It's not objectively better or worse for chess to be a sport or not to be. It's IRRELEVANT.
Stop posting about this unnecessarily over saturated topic for views and attention, it's sad and shows you not only have no creativity, but also aren't prepared to post something for the merit of posting something informative or useful, but are just interested in attention.
The fact that I have seen opposition to this forum (such as you) proves that this forum covers a topic important enough to still continue discussion. You disagree with me, so you don't like this forum. Try to rid yourself of biases before entering a discussion. It'll help you feel better.
You're so desperate to get attention you don't even bother reading the comment.
yes I'm disagreeing with your premise, and it's based on a very simple fact of DEFINITION and PRECEDENT. You can't dispute it, there's no argument to be had here.
Secondly your forum post isn't a "Petition" and it wont make any change.
Thirdly my main point was that the tag of "Sport" next to chess is meaningless, it doesn't change anything, it's not either objectively good or objectively bad for chess to have or not to have the title of being a sport. It's a pointless endeavour.
And that's why I'm saying you're just milking views out of a topic that's been beaten to death already. Get a life, and post about something that's actually worth posting about instead of trying to get attention.

It's a pointless endeavour. (You spelled endeavor wrong.) It's a pointless endeavor to you, who would have it not be considered a sport because you don't think it's a sport and you don't want it to lose its uniqueness. The majority of the chess community already regards chess as a sport (just look at this forum, for example), and that has not affected the uniqueness of chess.
And that's why I'm saying you're just milking views out of a topic that's been beaten to death already. Get a life, and post about something that's actually worth posting about instead of trying to get attention.
People who do not think chess is a sport, such as yourself, would naturally be annoyed with more forums saying chess is a sport. Clearly, the discussion isn't over; we are having it right now. If the discussion did end now, you wouldn't have a chance to possibly prove that chess isn't a sport. This forum isn't an attempt to get attention, there are less sad ways to get it.
So, you're mad at me because I disagree with you. Prove me wrong.

There's nothing to prove.
You can't argue about definitions and precedent, thats the point.
That, compiled on top of the fact that you keep ignoring the biggest point which is its irrelevant whether chess is called a sport or not, shows ur just here for attention, not for having problem solution dialogue.

There's nothing to prove.
Okay, first of all, be a little open minded. Otherwise, you become annoying.
You can't argue about definitions and precedent, thats the point.
Perhaps you have misunderstood the definition then. A couple pages back, I posted a picture of it. Chess fits the definition.
That, compiled on top of the fact that you keep ignoring the biggest point which is its irrelevant whether chess is called a sport or not, shows ur just here for attention, not for having problem solution dialogue.
I think it's relevant whether this game millions put a lot of time into is a sport or not. I already think it is, as do the majority of chess players. Again, this post wasn't asking for attention. It was asking for a consensus. How can I have a proper dialogue if you won't listen to me?

I think this is getting too heated. It's a friendly discussion, please calm down.
agree

1. being open minded is not relevant here. That's like asking someone to be open minded about them calling an apple a vegetable rather than a fruit. You can't be open minded about a definition.
2. Definition of sport: "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."
Chess doesn't involve physical exertion AND skill. The skill that chess involves is mental, not physical. This is further proven by the fact that good chess players aren't necessarily required to be in shape. You could be an old man with a beer belly and be a GM making money from tournaments.
You can't dispute this, there's nothing to argue or discuss, or get a consensus on.
3.
Your final paragraph is pointless, you're not making an argument. All you said was "i think it's important that people who spend time on chess are recognized as playing a sport"
You didn't respond to the point, you just ignored it completely. Why? Why is it important? what difference does it make?
But keep sucking attention from an idiotic topic such as this, i guess its easier than actually making an engaging ORIGINAL topic that uses your own creativity.
God forbid someone actually tries to use their brain and come up with some original content like batgirl.
It's obvious ur trolling, but just for the people that see this and are actually serious abuot chess being a sport. Realise you are making the simple points im putting forth and making them nuanced. I'm talking about facts like definitions, the state of a person when they play, and the consequences of the labelling of sport. Instead of directly refuting or responding to these points you put forth red herrings and are deliberately vague because you know your argument has no proper footing, because you're just doing this for attention.

1. being open minded is not relevant here. That's like asking someone to be open minded about them calling an apple a vegetable rather than a fruit. You can't be open minded about a definition.
Alright, if it was so obvious like that, how come several people still debate about this? How come The Olympic Committee considers chess a sport? Have they gone bananas?

read the rest of my comment before quoting it like that.
I frankly don't care if the olympics committee considers chess a sport. that doesn't prove chess a sport.
You're doing what I just mentioned in that same post u just quoted. You're being deliberately vague and misleading. you're not actually responding to my points, but making a logical fallacy to avoid actually responding to facts.

I did, but ok, i'll quote the whole thing next time.

Ur basically just ignoring this. You didn't really respond to the point, just saying you don't care.

I don't think I made a logical fallacy. Please tell me if I did. I also wasn't vague, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, thats exactly why there is "Physical Chess", in the Olympics, they are NOT gonna use chess.com, they are gonna use physical pzcs
