I think chess is a sport. If you don't think chess is a sport, there are plenty of other forums that discuss it. This forum is for people who want to make it heard that chess is indeed a sport. All you need to do is comment that chess is a sport. Let's get a lot of comments on this forum!

Agreed. But it is their fabricated trope because they had no other way to attack an incontrovertible fact that smashes their argument. Now, if they can provide proof of any kind from a board member that he was paid off by FIDE or promised sexual favors I will listen. Otherwise, it is a unsupported allegation without merit.

I believe that there should be a subcategory called "mental sports" which involve use of the mind. This would clear up all confusion and also end all arguments to whether chess is a sport or not.

Not really. What I mean is chess does indeed have physical activity, but it isn't the main focus of the game. The real aspect is mental activity. Chess requires skill, and if you are sticking to the definition that it requires physical exertion to be a sport, it technically does.

Chess is just like any other sport except that its physical exertion is manifested with mental exertion. Like any other sport, it requires training, skill, etc

Cooking might be a sport because of the mental exertion actually, but I've worked in restaurants.

Cooking probably is straight up a sport.
