Can't people be given a second chance? If they are genuinely and sincerely sorry... it's obvious they wouldn't do it again, and have learned their lesson.
All I can think about is all the great things he did on this site... all his time and dedication.
He probably wouldn't want to come back now anyway, even if given a second chance which is a great pity.
Black day for chess.com
Hey Erik,
ICC has a policy if someone is caught cheating once, they have to put it in their status and apologize or ICC will close it for cheating, all their games are erased. They in essense have to admit it but can still play and they have a (C) aside there name... sort of a nice Scarlett Letter twist.
I am for punishing cheaters... as I hate it when I go through my games history and I see 5-6 accounts closes for cheating (and several games sometimes)... and I definitely will snitch on you! But I do think there should be the social shame option... ICC even gives a warning of three options
1) You can admit that you cheated to them and say that you didn't realize you were violating the policy and never do it again
2) You can admit it, put that you cheated in your notes, apologize to the community and carry a (C) with you name (rating erased)
3) Deny it against ICC and if they find you are lying it's closed.
I don't agree with number 1... as its just a slap on the hand but you've stole games from several people. (It's funny I've had a friend who had the nerves to write a post about hating cheaters and was caught cheating!) But Erik I think the social shame aspect would be VERY effective here because unlike ICC, this site is wayyyy more personal (as I like to call it the facebook of chess).
But being that it's mainly a 2200 + problem... it's annoying for me as I can sometime get superparanoid when sometimes I'm just getting spanked. lol
Rookandladder, people who take steriods love what they do too... I assure you they don't love the steroids. What they do (steriods) is wrong, and certainly is no good for the game, but it doesn't mean they don't love it. The will to win is all part of the game/sport and unfortunately it can cause some serious problems.
At the same time you're wrong if you believe Anton didn't love chess.
