LOL... I sometimes see the topics there and know myself well enough to steer clear

Again I mean no disrespect toward this site, but it is quite obvious that the forums are geared to kids. And money is green regardless of whether its mine, yours or a parents.

And again once again :-) Its choices. Complain and leave. Complain and stay. Stay out of the forums. Report, block and move on. Im a fan of the last one.

Well, again, I ignore what isn't chess related or related to this platform, and those have nothing to do with age. Also, those participating are not children... I don't see that at all. In this thread, for example do you see any comment you suspect came from a child?

And chess.com staff doesn't gear the forums at all. Users create the threads and decide topics. It's up to each of us which threads we get involved in.

Conversations that involve children. It just never happens. Nor even teenagers. I don't pay attention to threads with titles like, "Would you kiss the person above you?". ha ha

What I mean by kids posts are things like:

Post your brilliant moves.

I got a brilliant move.

Make up a silly opening.

Make up a new chess piece.

And yes those person above you and person below you posts.

What opening should I play?

And people that play nothing but speed chess and ask why that arent improving?

Then again it may just be me :-)

Right... not exactly serious, often young adults at best. I sometimes check those out, but normallly not. I do like the "what's your chess personality?" thread, though, still going strong... it's given me lots of opportunities to make jokes. Jokes, especially dumb jokes are pretty much my thing. And I love to get a laugh.rou

I think I have taken that chess personality test half a dozen times and gotten a different answer each time. But at the end of the day. I just enjoy having this type of interaction.

::: cough :::

I rarely start threads but here's one a couple of days old.

Im gonna give you my standard and unpopular answer when it comes to openings.

Openings do not decide your games.

Your opening choice should be based on the types of middle games youre comfortable playing.

Right, and my answer: I'm fairly new to chess. I do not read books about chess. I'm not going to hire a coach or take a chess course.

But:

It almost goes without saying that the more important thing is not memorizing opening best moves but to be able to look at a board, familiar or not, opening or not, and figure out the best move, as much as you can. But, for example, I tried 960 and didn't care for it. It takes away the advantage of memorizing lines, I understand, possibly a good idea but, personally, I missed seeing a normal opening, those familiar positions, more of them the longer I play, that I can spend time thinking about and studying. I'm not trying to learn a lot of openings and, unlike when I started out, I'm not impressed, for example, to come across YouTube videos titled, like, "Learn this killer new opening!" or "Crush all your opponents with the Caro Kann!". And I hate it, for example, when beginners try to, basically kill the game early with the Schoolboy's/Scholar's Mate, thinking they don't need to actually learn how to play, just memorize three or four moves and hope their opps aren't paying attention.

Youre already ahead of the curve because you understand that rote memorization leads to nothing without understanding the "why" behind each move. I had a student that couldn't even explain the "why" behind 1...c5 when playing the Sicilian.

Like I said. Play around with openings until you find middle games youre comfortable playing. And if you have a favorite chess player than copy his openings and learn how to play the middle games. Whatever you do good luck and have fun.

No they should not be paid. They should work for free. That way some dude can have the biggest yacht in the port and feel great about his accomplishments. Look how small the other yachts are compared to my yacht. I have the biggest yacht in the port

Leaked picture from the last moderators gathering at the Ritz Hotel in South Korea, Chess.com flew them out first class on concorde.

Mods control the world bro, hence why they are all millionaires living on yachts sailing on a sea of champagne. Most of them are robots who replaced humans and are from the planet chess.

Just imagined: your account has been banned for some funny yet sarcastic comment and now you are trying to explain it to Chessica...

Fortunately, chess.com is chess.com and Chomper is Chomper
Otherwise we would not know both

AI is nowhere near good enough to do that. Just look at YouTube, hundreds of accounts get shut down by AI moderation with no real appeal system, while people commit upload themselves commiting literal felonies with no repercussions.

I do think that maybe some paid moderates with designated shifts alongside volunteers who hop on in their free time would be interesting though. I'm not an expert on moderation so 🤷‍♂️
