The comments on the chat are often brilliant in their subtlety and humor. Chess is an intense game but Chess.com is supposed to be fun.

I agree with every one of RetGuvvie's ideas, but of course, these are just not plausible with an outside streamer hosting our videos...
I know nothing about this, but presumably it is too difficult for chess.com to create their own video software (else we would no doubt have it already! ).

david, if it isn't a lot of trouble, possibly a "middle of the road" option could be to turn chat off for basic members for the first half hour of each hour - just to see what the effects are. that allows them to get in, but limits them for part of the time.
and no, I'm not going to presume it is only basic members doing the flooding, although in live chess, normally that is who is engaged in flooding. (live moderator).
oh furtive, i just had an idea! drag your browser window to the right side of your screen and then.... push the chat off the edge! then laugh at it as it falls into the abyss. solutions. :-)
Heh, maybe I'll try that David. :-)

Please remember that there are lot of us who watch from the Third world countries who do not have the ability get premium membership. But we love Chess and this site as much as any one else.!
I didn't think that Sri Lanka was a Third World Country.

There have been people asking for a way to turn chat off for themselves so that they only see the TV video and not the chat.
I'd say there is an easy way to do exactly that in the chess.com TV system as is:
Simply click on "Full Screen", and in the Full Screen TV display, there will be no chat displayed.
Disabling the chat is a bad idea. The ability for users to communicate with the broadcasters is one of the best things about Chess.com TV.

I'm aware of this feature, but I don't like it for many reasons, not the least of which being that the resolution of the video is small, and it looks really bad on my decent sized monitor when it's full screen.

$6.00 is a bargain for the complete coverage. I suggest to stick with the plan for the 6 free games and we can do the math, it's only $1.00 per game for the rest.
Is there a place we can view archived game commentaries? I can't always make the live coverage but I want to use the analysis like a chess lesson from a master player on how to think through a position.
If Chess.com can find a way to fund the coverage by factoring in increased memberships and/or advertisements we could expand the good idea here and cover other tournaments like the US open, women chess championships, youth championships, etc. Make the archived commentaries available as well and I can see Chess.com membership numbers increase.

Archives of all broadcasts are available always (for diamond and I *THINK* Platinum memberships too)... Just go to http://www.chess.com/tv , and click on the "On Demand" link.

Hey, I'm not in favour at all about paying extra for the chess TV. I became a premium member because of these extra benefits. So please don't make premium members pay extra.
If you did I would go watch it on the free official website and certainly think about my future membership.

No one is talking about Diamond members like yourself paying extra. Its a question of how much OTHERS need to pay. :-)

I enjoy seeing the chats on the side of the screen. It gives a sense of added excitement to the whole viewing experience and can be really entertaining.
Regarding seeing the current position in the game, can you not have a small board on a corner of the screen showing the current game position so that we know what stage the game is at?

- oki, let's make an hypothesis, that I like your cover of the World Champs (Thanks David!) & I would even feel fair to upgrade to platinium to watch it. What will happen after the match finishs which will be worthy for the money.
- Changing from open to everyone (even if you're not logged) to only platinum & premium members is quite a radical change.
- This is first time I heardt of a site where received visits have became a problem, I thought pages won money from that.
- The fact of starting a project for develop a Chess.tv broadcast doesn't fit very well with the purpouse of limit the access to people who already are paying to use features in the site, the popularity of a service like that one will decrease quickly. Many it will become something like make from ourselves to the enjoy of ourselves
- Maybe do not make counts based in porcentages (invented porcentages) about people who connect the broadcast when it's free, just after it become a paying service number of potencial people following any link will be reduced.
i can turn chat on or off for everyone, or on or off for basic members. but i'll inquire if there are other options.
