Let me finish my computer messed up. When I first started on this site, my tactics strength was 1200 and today it is over 2000. Ive done over 11,000 puzzles and went throught countless tactics books puzzles. Studying tactics will improve your chess game by 100% wherever you study it either books or computers. Please forget about learning cheap beginner trapes like the fools mate and bringing your Queen out early. You will never beat the lowest rated Club Level Player with that and study tactics. In a year you will be a beast.

And now for the flip side...I am rated USCF 1805, and got there on studying positional ideas, Petrosians games, and end games.
Basically, study the whole game if you want to improve. Because no matter what you study, you will improve, but once you get to a certain level, if your game is not balanced youll end up getting crushed, and some point, at some level.
Although i never post or play games on this site. I study tactics on this site everyday. In May 2008, I was so frustrated with my chess playing at my Local Club and i had a USCF Rating of around 1400 and could not improve. My good friend at the club who had a USCF Rating of around 1800 and punished me everyday had been preaching tactics to me for a year but i would not listen. I finally had enough and purchased the tactics trainer on this site along with August Livshitz Test your Chess IQ 1st and 2nd edition and i told my buddy that i would study nothing but tactics for 1 year and if i didnt improve, i would quite chess and never play again. Since then, My USCF rating has gotten up over 1600. I feel so much more confident over the chess board. Please Chess Players, if you are frustrated with your game, and not a Master or Above, study, study, study tactics and watch your game took off. When i first started on this site
