The reason is that alcohol used to be "proved" by dousing gunpowder in it and seeing if it would still burn (and seeing how much you could dilute it before it wouldn't). under about 57% alcohol and it wouldn't, so ~57% became "100 proof".

They are both 95% ethonol. I don't understand what the big difference is. Everclear 190 is illegal in many states and provinces because it is dangerous. TheGrobe lives in the legal to sell Everclear province.
The contradiction of sorts lies in you saying 190 proof with close your throat and then saying Everclear is irrelevent because it is only 190 proof.
Also the dehydration from drinking comes from your body thrying to pee out the alcohol not alcohol absorbing water.

Interesting -- I didn't even know they made Everclear that weak. I've only ever seen the 190 proof stuff.
