I feel biased toward chess, only because I can't hit woods worth a darn. I am only decent with irons and a putter. I can't hit wedges either. If I were better at golf, I might enjoy it more than chess. I like the outdoors, physical activity, especially where cerebral activities become mixes with physical typed activities..
to you, which is better between golf and chess?

golf is fun.. but does not the high of chess. Plus IMO the cons of golf suck.
money, seasonal, long play just standing waiting to hit your ball. The aveage member to a golf clug is 700.00 USD and chess is free. Plus I can human or engine any time and any time control.

Those that haven't played golf at a competitive level may never understand how mental the game is. One of the greatest players ever, Bobby Jones, said that golf is played on a five inch surface-the space between your ears.

Golf is hitting a little ball into a little hole kinda far away.
Dumb.
You should have children playing there, you should have families having picnics, you should have a goddamn petting zoo! But instead you've got these stupid little electric carts for you old men with nothing better to do!
Golf is a long walk, chess is a long night.
or months, how many people can testify to that?

It might not being appealing to you but, it is quite challenging. I am rather good at sports like basketball, tennis, football and other very physical sports. I am a terrible ball striker. Anything that is not only a physical but, also a mental challenge is interesting and relevant, even if you personally don't find it appealing. If it were grossly easy, we'd let toddlers do it and we wouldn't care.

Paraphrasing Carlin.

Chess, because if you play golf you have to take a spare pair of socks incase you get a hole in one....

I was about to tell this guy what an idiot he is, but you've put it quite well, nemo.
To your point about physical sport, anyone that knows golf will never say it's not physical. Just take a look at the top 20 or so players in the world.
Having said that, there have been fat golfers that have made a living doing it. The same can be said for almost any sport.

Golf and chess both hold a lot of similarities for me
The more I play the more I think I have the games cracked only to find the next time round both mock me for my naivity
Both are cruel in their delight to cause me (and I am sure others) a lot of pain and misery when you come to realise just how bad you can be at both at times
Yet both have me hooked
It is true that as a student I can afford to play chess a lot more than I play golf...

X^3/5X-i+(12i-5)^4 x 4!/13
x2 = -1 therefer' x = √-1 = i
With that in mind, no problemo! Therefer' chess is War, tiz' a battle between kindom'z!
chess golf, or golf chess tiz'
golf tiz' 3 dimentional ruled by da' rules of nature and stuffy, chess is multidementional ruled by the "minds at large" , "minds at large" are a danger to da' status quo tha' "the state in which" we exist...
We are space cowboy'z...freaks of nature!
Chess win hand down... I played both and the cons of golf to expensive and time to just to shoot a decent score. plus you can only play seasonal. Chess will last a life time even with use of engine. the only negative is the money. but the people who truly love this game is for the game not the money like crappy poker, golf. I heard some spent 10K on every thing gold related any not even a pro. Hey to each their own hobbies.. TV and star will help makinh chess more popular.
