ALL HAIL ERIK
@spiderunicorn38 you are not allowed to have multiple accounts.
You can never 100% hide yourself, just like you can never make a website that can't be hacked.
But you can make it cost a lot of time/money/expertise to find you.
I know what you mean ![]()
When you have a website this big though, you have all sorts of people. Some people are actually insane. Some people are disabled and can't sleep and spend 20 hours a day online ![]()
All sorts of outliers you'd probably never expect to meet in real life.
For example this dude, who has played over 300,000 games on chess.com
https://www.chess.com/member/peacemyfriend
Yeah, 300 thousand and his rating hangs around 1000.
Zero posts.
Why does he do it? What kind of person is this?
We can only imagine ![]()
I wonder if he's a bot.
It's probably possible to train a neural network on the millions of games played by 900 rated players, and create realistic patzers.
Well...
1) He's been on the site since 2007
2) He's not the only one with over 300K -- https://www.chess.com/member/pokerbloke99
3) If you developed something like that you'd sell it, not make some hidden account on chess.com heh
Anyway, the real bots have over 1 million games played.
I don't understand trolls. Once they've been exposed, why do they continue? Once it's clear that no one is fooled, why maintain the facade? I can't relate to that mentality (which is probably a good thing). I suppose that it is just because human stubbornness is a resource that never runs out.
Blackburne once wrote: "Chess is a kind of mental alcohol. It inebriates the man who plays it constantly. He lives in a chess atmosphere, and his dreams are of gambits and endgames. I have known many an able man ruined by chess".
I mean it sounds like a total joke - a person's life might be ruined by drugs, by crime, by women, by alcohol, by smoking - but chess?! Ruin someone's life?
But I daresay I can see it happening, especially with it so easily accessible online.
Makes you wonder about the parents begging their kids to play the game more because they think it's good for them.
Anything done in excess can have a detrimental regardless of whether it's an intellectually stimulating activity or dull pursuit. It requires devotion, focus and what not, which can well be invested into something more fruitful (attaining balance in life and so). Treat the game as what it simply is - a game and do not go overkill with tactical proficiency and what have you. Do it in moderation with zeal and it can be a highly enriching experience. But never too much that applies for just about anything. I, for instance, am going to refrain from posting on these forums. I will now resort to a very much distinct activity, to keep the blood flowing. Goodbye.
can ppl join my kotl?
So, now this thread has become troll bait. No surprise there.
There are a few simple rules for content and pictures on Chess.com:
#1 - Respect others. Do not be mean.
#2 - No profanity, swearing, or inappropriate language or topics.
#3 - No pictures of violence or gore, that are sexually provocative, or which promote intolerance.
#4 - No religious or political debate or commentary in the regular forums. Religion and politics are important and deeply personal, but Chess.com is a friendly community where we come together around a common love for chess and debating these two topics tend to pull people apart. If you would like to discuss religion or politics, you may do so in many of the private's club of Chess.com
... the turn tables...
Takes me back to the good ol' days, ....

We used to be friends but you have such a bad memory. But who keeps track of old account's friends lists...? long time I didn't visit the forums anyways, I don't blame you. But I got bored again... too much innocence... too much inactivity for so long. Not so hot as I like the soup. So, I'm out. Enjoy ![]()

4 of your friends were banned,.
I said "friends" list when I wanted to say "messages" list. I thought about not giving clarification because I like him to think a lot. But, It's ok, this time I'll save him so much thinking. He has thought enough already.
So much time in forums one memory overlaps another one, so I understand him. It's ok if he doesn't remember. I like him because he had a hard time in the church and we agreed in so many things, bat dat's ova, my friend, enjoy life
So is it possible to completely get rid of trolls?
No. It's part of the human condition
It's like asking if you can make crime or war disappear. The best you can do is reduce it.
Email ban's useless, maybe hardware ID ban?
Email ban is 1000% useless.
IP ban is a little more effective, but they (and mac addresses) can be changed / faked / etc.
If someone were really really bad, then they could pursue legal action, the end result being the ISP gives the police the user's real name, address, credit card info, etc. and you take them to court heh.
But for annoying kids and mentally ill people, you just have to hope you can make it annoying enough for them (they have to keep making new accounts) that they eventually go away.
