I think that the creator of the forum has the right to control it.

it's essentially the same thing they ask of us.

I don't know what exactly you're complaining about. When you paid for your membership you knew exactly what you'd be getting for your money..

I think the positives far outweigh any negatives but let's agree to disagree..

Well wich is it? First you say that it's not a big deal and thereby admitting is somewhat of a deal but not a big one and then you say it is perfectly fine by saying that you think the creater of the post has the right to control the existance of that post.

Are you here to actually express an oppinion or just here to troll this thread?

the post you're referring to wasn't a complaint, it was an observation.

chess.com asks its members for money in good faith that specific things will improve here.  sometimes these imporvements take far longer than the initially suggested amount of time.  it would be nice if members could offer chess.com the same.

-where's your payment?

-i'm working on it.  it really takes a lot of time to come up with this kind of money--my job is kind of in the beta stage right now so...  i should have it to you in a few weeks.

-ok, here's your membership anyway.

-thanks.

I emphatically disagree.  Topics generally take on a life of their own and I'd argue that the ownership collectively belongs to all of the contributors and, by extension, the community as a whole.  This is why only moderators should be able to delete threads.

i too think the positives outweigh the negatives, but the negatives are always worth talking about...

Where did it say this?  I signed on based on the functionality that was being offered at the time I purchased my membership.  I consider improvements after that to be 100% bonus.

There's a difference between complaining and constructive criticism:

  • What the rest of the contributors to this thread are doing is constructive criticism.
  • What you are doing is complaining about it.

I just noticed the 'delete' button at the top of this thread. Wouldn't it be the ultimate irony if I deleted this thread? ;D

In what world is your whining about somehing unimportant considered constructive criticism?!?

artfizz

Eric mentioned last year that chess.com would be looking to improve the forums this Summer. On that basis, he will surely welcome constructive criticism and alternative ideas, including I hope a thread citing potential annoyances that I recently initiated; also, a thread on this very topic that I raised about six months ago.

Oh, I didn't realise someone had beaten me to it. Sorry for the duplicate.

Maybe I should delete this thread after all. ;D

an_arbitrary_name

Just kidding, by the way—I wouldn't delete all your posts.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

I don't think the OP owns the thread either. They own their posts in the thread, that's it.

EDIT: I guess being the creator of the thread and having the ability to delete the thread doesn't imply an ownership of the thread, for me. But I could see it the other way I suppose.
