i think it is a big deal... not a deal breaker mind you, but still a big deal. it's just one more thing to add to the list that makes this site far less legit than they want us all to believe it is.
I think the positives far outweigh any negatives but let's agree to disagree..

Well wich is it? First you say that it's not a big deal and thereby admitting is somewhat of a deal but not a big one and then you say it is perfectly fine by saying that you think the creater of the post has the right to control the existance of that post.

chess.com asks its members for money in good faith that specific things will improve here. sometimes these imporvements take far longer than the initially suggested amount of time. it would be nice if members could offer chess.com the same.

I emphatically disagree. Topics generally take on a life of their own and I'd argue that the ownership collectively belongs to all of the contributors and, by extension, the community as a whole. This is why only moderators should be able to delete threads.

Eric mentioned last year that chess.com would be looking to improve the forums this Summer. On that basis, he will surely welcome constructive criticism and alternative ideas, including I hope a thread citing potential annoyances that I recently initiated; also, a thread on this very topic that I raised about six months ago.
