I think it is a system-wide error
Want to insert a link? You pay for it.

Nope. No error.
From chess.com Member Support:
"Wow, Jason, I’m so sorry! It appears that adding a web page and formatting the about me is now a premium feature. This must have been a recent change and I’m embarassed not to have known about it. I do see what you see on a basic account, and more options on a premium account.
I’m sorry about that. Have a good one!"
Yes, quite.

I can't see the logic behind blocking only the "insert/edit link" thing ... I can still post totally off-topic pictures without paying a dime.

I'm sorry to hear you are frustrated by this! Trust me - I am too! The reason we changed this is NOT about urging people to spend money to unlock links. The reason is that when we allowed anyone to come in and post links we had a huge amount of spammers coming to post links on fake profiles just for the link "juice" and search engine stuff (yes, even though the links were "no-follow"). We did not have a better way to weed out spammers from regular users at the time other than to just make it allowed only for people who have validated with a credit card. I agree that anyone should be able to post links - but we will have to find a way to do it that doesn't encourage people to abuse the links.
As for the spellchecker, in V3 (next version of Chess.com) we won't even have a spellchecker. It will just use your browser's built-in (and better) spellchecker. Coming soon!

well its seems Socrates also said things like:
''it's better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you're not."
"It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit."
"Life is like a ten-speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use."
"Many of us spend half our time wishing for things we could have if we didn't spend half our time wishing."
Socrates must indeed have been a profound genius if he mentioned bicycles. In fact he must have had the ability to see into the future since bicycles weren't invented until the 19th century. I have always admired Socrates and I now have a new respect for him.

So you assume that everyone who signs up, becomes a member, plays chess regularly on chess.com, but does not step up to Premium, is a potential spammer? The fact is we have to PAY to get these basic things - and the ability to format text IS basic. I can't even put a paragraph in a block of text, for godsake.
Don’t have a better way to weed out spammers? Try obliging people to prove that they know how to play chess before letting them become members. A hell of a lot of members, judging by their cobwebbed profiles, have not played a single game here.

l know lichess uses a mate-in-one puzzle for their profile captcha. That might help with the issue.

I just posted New forum topic and posted a link there and 1 min after that I saw this?! That is odd lol So does it mean no one can see what I just posted?
So now we have to become 'premium' members to be gifted the ability of inserting a website link and formatting a few lines in our profiles.
Miserly, penny-pinching attitude by chess.com.
I've never come across a social site that denies its members links and formatting options in editing their profiles untill they cough up some dough.
Although I'm tempted to vomit four quid every month for the privilege of linking my website I think I'll forego that pleasure.
