Perhaps the answer to the headline question that started this thread is
What would it take to finally push you over the edge?
I haven't paid for premium membership because it would make me spend more time to justify the money.
I shouldn't be spending anymore time here because I am a college student, and need to spend more time doing school work. When I have a real job, I will be spending less time on chess.com than I do now.
But I will continue using this site casually, and sometime when I can afford it, I'll buy a lifetime membership.
i don't know anything about "gum" memberships, or gym membership numbers, but i will reveal this statistic: 91% of the premium members on this site are active. some others are on vacation. some have not come back and we will happily provide them refunds on their auto-renewal.
i'm done debating this topic. clearly people enjoy the site and are paying for it. it's rediculous for you to be painting this as anything other than what it is.
It's not a debate Erik. It's an expose.
PS the small hit at my erogenous grammar ("gum" = "gym") was not very classy.

erogenous grammar - now THAT was funny :)
(for those who don't know:
- Main Entry: erog·e·nous
- Pronunciation:\i-ˈrä-jə-nəs\
- Function:adjective
- Etymology:Greek erōs + English -genous, -genic
- Date: circa 1889

As somebody once said;-
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

Would love to play more comps, but am skint so cannot afford it.Very annoying, but I have a great life, so be it.

Political and religious discussions are not allowed. Should economics be added to the list of banned topics?

To push me over the edge it would take me getting a job. Right now I am pretty much broke, and have about 30-50$ a month for fun (including eating out/getting coffee). So until that happens I probably won't be joining the site.
The tactics trainer and the minimal cost are the main reasons why I would be joining, for 10 cents a day or whatever it is all the bonuses really are worth it. I might ask for christmas for someone to get me a membership.

when I hit 1200 in blitz i will be buying a silver membership, 1400 gold (if i hit 1400) and 1600 platinum (this will probably never happen)

i can easily arrange that

When a product is good, I pay for it. If it's REALLY good, I pay really well for it.
Chess.com is really good.

Erik,
I say bump the man up....Or do you think that type of behavior would be "erogenous"?
