Who is the Most Famous Person on Chess.com? The Last to Post!

I don't think I was around here when Daeth became famous, so I have no idea what he did except create an opining.

It's noi like you can't produce quality while obeying site rules. In off-topic, one has some leeway.

Yes, I suppose you're right. Except that the extent of the "leeway" is very much uncertain, and apparently varies greatly among different people.

O and btw, goldendog, you're one of the few people that have been around for quite some time, and are still active. Other people who've been around for a while tell me that the forums were once much less moderated than they are now, and I believe them. I also asked them why they think the forums are becoming more and more moderated, and I got a variety of different answers. Say, could you offer your insight into why that might be the case? It's a question that I've always been very curious about.

Remember the candidates thread last year? That thing was crazy posts every 5 seconds for hours too.

'I don't think I was around here when Daeth became famous, so I have no idea what he did except create an opining."

And that is what makes him special

Besides you don't have to be there when he was famous, as long as people always hear of him, his name will carry on! :)

Whoa, 7 pages in 18 hours. This very thread has probably broken chess.com records

Nope, hardly. I've seen, like, 15 pages in 15 hours.

Really? I havent been here for that long, but the only other thread I've seen with this much success is the 1000 signs you play too much chess thread

Yeah, the most popular threads that I've seen were from some time ago.

I think it's just the will of staff, as directed from above, that has developed over time.

For example, erik hates the pic-spamming. Once it was somewhat tolerated and I think he's decided that it's not going to be allowed in the main forums at all. I've had single humorous pics deleted here in the past year or two; now I expect them to be deleted and maybe risk getting muzzled (though I'm usually pretty mild). Guys in my circle, like al and flags and conqui, are on a one more pic and punishment basis. They've been muzzled before for it.

The same attitude, to a lesser degree, applies to off-topic comments in the general forums. Enough of them strung together and there's a risk of deletion, locking, moving, even muzzling in cases where  previous warnings are being ignored.

It takes less now than it used to to have your content modded.

Used to be there was one guy who was muzzled in all the forums (he used to continuously post self-aggrandizing comments about his accomplishments here, and ignored warnings to stop). Just him. And there was rich who was a trainwreck of a poster and a early form of point hunter--posting lol over and over in threads just to pad his total. He got warned for that and was on the cusp of a muzzle.

Nowadays lots of people have  a muzzle in their resume.

It is much stricter in the forums now, and one result is that the humor from me and my jackass friends has been decimated. Sure, some truly worthless crap has been jettisoned from the forums via this policy but the baby's been thrown out as well.

I'm not sure there is any way to save the good without sifting each post in some overly wrought extra-judicious way. Who has time for that? Besides, it would appear to be playing favorites to the masses who don't have their finger on forums.

rss gets pointed to as a privileged group that gets away with stuff but in fact they are the most muzzled group that I know of. Andy got his first account password changed on him (locked out) and was recently muzzled, and at least four others I can think of now have been muzzled, and three are on a one-more-mistake-and-pow status.

Mostly for posting pics--too many pics.

Somehow I've avoided the muzzle and never even have gotten a real warning via pm from staff. Probably just lucky as I get content deleted for reasons I don't have to guess at.

Great to hear goldendog compliment snakesbelly. Many great people left due to unclear norms.

If we want to consider the best troll it would have to be a person who is still here, still active, and still remembered

This thread I think has quite a few records to it's name... http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/the-last-one-to-post-is-the-biggest-fan-of-chesscom?lc=1#last_comment

Yup, but like other forum game threads (3 word story, You're Banned, etc), they don't make the OP famous even when they become very popular. This thread is slightly better than the other forum games, since as far as I know the "last one to post" idea was original, and because of that thread a bunch of other "last one to post" threads were created. But still, no one remembers the name of the OP.

chessdex

Yeah, that thread about the last to post was started by Mephisto, who I never heard of until now. It's not the biggest I think

samtoyousir

True, but I mean it started 4 years ago! maybe the person was famous then...

I'm pretty sure it's the biggest by a lot. I've never seen anything even come close.
