Nice point i agree
Can "Points" Be of Use?

Your first line is incorrect. It counts your post in all clubs and notes. No, it's not anything special to spam for, but it does have a meaning.

So, I've noticed that a lot of people complain about the useless point system on everyone's profile. I've decided to announce that I disagree.
Why is that? Well, suppose I want to see if I can message that guy about that really interesting game we just played? He seems to be a long time member. I go to his profile and it says he has 5 points yet over 10 notes on his profile. Hold it! Instead of wasting time on making that message or posting it for now reason, I can determine that he very likely won't respond regarding his very few points.
Now, if you find me, I have many points. I can be the kind of person to invite to your club if you want an activer chatter (I don't spam).
This is why I think the point system is a brilliant Idea and should NOT be taken away.
Thanks.

I fully agree with you; it is not about assigning quality value but measuring the level of participation.

I believe writing blogs gives you a ton of points as well.

Even participation level has quality/quantity attributes to it. Silence, signal, noise.
All points mean is that you post in the forums. Points in no way account for quality posts. Just quantity. So having a lot of points does not mean youre a valuable contributor, or contribute anything of value.
Hmm... Uh... Lol... Indeed... True... OK... Yeet... Keek... Huh...
There, take my valuable contributions!

Yes! There are people who participate a lot, every day, and do not go beyond expressions like those you mentioned. So there can be a lot of participation and zero quality. Just as there are those who also participate very actively and have low quality. They are agressive, inelegant or simply out of focus.

Glad you explained what they meant, only been here a year. Haven't dug into many details of this site as trying to do this on other new platforms/forums I joined.
I would much rather see a "points" system based on the number of good sportsmanship thumbs up, minus downvotes.

But then live chess opponents will just troll with giving downvotes. Some people are even so stupid that they give downvotes when they lose a game and when their opponent has done nothing wrong, regarding sportsmanship

Good point. Guess there would have to be some limiting factor like only one downvote per five ups given. But then might have folks begging for undeserved applause, then retaliating when see in count that they didn't get one. Nasty notes, etc. Guess I prolly give out 50👍s for every 1👎, chalk up minor bragging or insults to language diffs or just a mood, so just don't vote at all.
I stayed away from social media in my 20+ yrs on the 'net 'til became pretty involved with political forums 2 years ago. You're right, I've seen that veteran trolls can beat almost any peer ranking system eventually, form armies thru backchannel communications, etc.
Just a suggestion from a naive newbie nice guy trying to post on chess.com forums a bit more.

ur argument of using points as a factor to whether people respond or not is extremely specific. The situation u gave doesn't really happen often. Most people have hundreds of points, if not thousands. relying on points to determine the probability that someone will respond is naive.
I have nothing against your comment. I completely agree. At least we know that it has a meaning.

Ha. Good for you. I still have never joined social media. I don't count chess.com as one because it is very much different.
But for the rest of your comment. I agree, and same with who you are talking to.
