Can "Points" Be of Use?

Back when there were lists of top point getters, there were some people with hundreds of thousands of points. I could never figure out how they had done it.

Probably club spamming. You could originally post like 100 notes in club easily in 10 seconds by clicking the post button a bunch before it actually posted but chess.com thankfully updated that.

I honestly find it unamusing to spam and disturbing to others so I never do it. XD

Not even when others allow it, I just don't.

"Most people have hundreds of points, if not thousands."

Any proof of that? It's true at your level but probably not for the site as a whole. I recently played someone who joined five years ago and his points were 4.

The original poster's comments are convincing to me.

In my opinion, they should make it so that the points actually do something instead of just sit there on the profile page.

Thank you.

Hey! (Another point!)

Exactly. Some people are like that for real, and not just playing around.

But what if people spam to get points?

Then that's that, I guess. As far as I know, the Chess.com community doesn't really do too much about spamming, but who am I to tell them what to do?

Every time you see a "comment added" notification at the top of your screen, I think they're a point each. Even in the Tactics section.

Any post except Private Messages gives you a point.

All points mean is that you post in the forums.  Points in no way account for quality posts.  Just quantity.  So having a lot of points does not mean you're a valuable contributor, or contribute anything of value.>>

As anyone can see, I post a lot and I completely concur.

Useless discussion for useless points

Points are not necessary but they are not useless.

May I point out that points are pointless unless you place value on points, in which case you may have missed the point of points in the point system. grin.png

So the point of points in the point system is to be pointless but when a value is placed upon points the whole point of points in the point system changes? grin.png
