I said before if this was in the equipment forum it might have had a better response. The first one Carl had was in the Equipment and book forum.

This thread had slipped my mind and I will be happy to add one more entry to the total for this excellent drawing!
Under the influence of some of the Equipment Forum members I am trying to expand my taste in chess pieces beyond basic boxwood and ebonized chess pieces. This led me to take a look at some Official Staunton offerings that I had not considered before. The one that has really caught my eye is the Collectors Rosewood Mahogany Combination. I feel that the pieces themselves are a very tastefully rendered Staunton design in Rosewood that seems simple and beautiful to me. They are paired with the board that I feel is the prettiest that Official Staunton has in their collection: The Italian Framed Mahogany Board. For me this board offers great looking wood in a shade that will complement many different types of wooden chess pieces. The contrast between this board and the Collectors Rosewood set appears to be excellent in the pictures on the site. I have no experience with nice boxes made to hold chess pieces but the Mahogany box included with this set looks to be absolutely gorgeous. (Buying a chess box that costs about as much as a nice board would be a big step for me!)
I also feel the need to include a mention of a much less expensive set that also caught my eye. The Old English Padauk Elm Set was not one I had considered before either. That Elm board is beautiful and the Padauk pieces really look great on it. Official Staunton has some top notch stuff at very fair prices.
