When should I trade the rooks in an endgame of Rook and Knight vs Rook and Bishop? I guess when I have more pawns I should welcome such trade, right?
Boris Spassky told one of the most famous chess quips. When asked if he preferred chess or ''amorous activity'' he replied ''It depends on the position''. That is the answer to most questions like yours.
Generally, R+B cooperate better than R+N.
Generally, more material or better structure you seek trades.
Generally worse structure but more activity you don't trade.
But chess is concrete so the answer''depends o the position''
Then there are issues of pawns attack-able?? good knight vs bad bishop and so on. This is (I think) covered in the book ''Knight vs Bishop-the Verdict'' for examples- Bill
