Why studying endgames are important

So I get it, endgames are tedious and boring and why in the heck would you study them when all you need is a good pet line or two to get some quick wins in the opening or middlegame? Here, I missed 3 moves in the first 24 moves but it was the last 40 that made the difference. Ultimately coming down to endgame technique. This can be the difference between a won and a loss in many games. While White is actually a minor piece ahead, if the piece is hung, the game likely is drawn. Notice the extra piece spends the remainder of the game as a blockader, essentially giving us a good Knight vs bad Bishop ending.

Aside from the hiccups I. The middle with one that would have decided the game almost immediately, this game at least allowed me to play a nice ending.
