crossed 900 in rapid

Just be careful with your pieces, try to spend a bit of time to check if their in danger or not and you'll get there soon.

Dear jpspear,
I am a certified, full-time chess coach and International Master, so I have seen it and tried it all.
There are so many ways to get better and I know it can be overwhelming.
You can learn from free videos on youtube, there are books at your disposal that can all help, but they are not tailored to your needs.
One of the most important things you can do is to analyze your games! You must learn from your mistakes! That is a priority. You can't really move on to a new, different topic and learn new ideas if you still make the same mistakes over and over again!
This is where a chess coach comes into the picture. A good coach can show you how to study, what to study, gives you the material YOU need. Naturally, it takes time to use everything in practice, but if you are relentless and persistent you will succeed!
You should learn the main principles in every area of the game (opening, middlegame, endgame). Don't focus on only one part! You should improve your tactical vision as well as it is part of all areas!
This how I built my training program for my students. We discuss more than one topic during a lesson so it's always interesting and they can improve constantly. I give homework too and the right tools to make practicing enjoyable and effective!
Don't worry about your rating and the ups and downs! Just keep on playing and practicing!
I hope this helps. I wish you good games and 100+ extra ratings

For some reason i found it difficult to get out of the 900's then blew through the 1000's now struggle to get out of the 1100's usually i find that when we start to idle in a certain rating range and cant move forward we need to add another layer to our game, wheather its learning a few opening lines better, becomming better in tactics or endgames or strategy, identifying what were missing in our games can be a challenge. Somtimes we can figure it out on our own or somtimes we need people to tell us what we need to improve on.

Couldn't agree more with that idea. Bit by bit, improving your game. Like you say, identifying the difference to be made is the tricky part.
OP, try and take a look at your previous recent games and identify something they have in common as a weakness. Try improve that and you might find yourself playing better. I recently crossed 900 too. I've decided on something to improve upon in coming games. We'll see how that works out Good luck!

Chessable is a good resource. There are some free courses on there to get you started. Work on all four areas of the game ( openings, tactics, endgames, stratagy) for me its 50% tactics, 30% endgames 10% openings an 10% endgames, atleast for now. I did nothing but endgames for a month in the 900's now i just go back in my courses an reveiw some stuff so i dont forget. Once we spend time in all the areas an then struggle to move ahead id say getting a few lessons with a coach since the weaknesses might not be so clear. Pawn structures, weak squares, long term stratagies etc...

I've only been playing chess since January and have just hit my highest rating of 883.
A number of people have said that 800 - 900 players seem to be very good lately. Maybe it's all of the free online content making it so.
I hit a brick wall a few weeks ago which I posted about - I felt like I flew through 500 - 800 range but am stuck in the mid - late 800's.
I agree with what's been said here. When you hit that wall you need to add something to your game. Improve on what you know. Study the openings and systems you've already played and improve on them.
Still I think the road to 1000 is to play as well as you can, stick to the principals and don't blunder your pieces.
Good luck.

Looked through a few of your games. Here's some tips:
Castle before you start making attacking moves, this wan an issue in a couple of games. Your own king needs to be safe before you start attacking.
Practice tactics, remember that check is a forcing move and remember that discovered attacks are a thing.
In a couple of games you had a tendency to place a bishop poorly in the opening. Make sure they aren't in danger of getting trapped by the opponent pushing pawns or traded in a way that weakens your position (by getting a doubled pawn for example). Look at some 2000+ games to see how they place bishops in the opening.
You have potential, keep playing. Oh and if you can get a hold of Chessmaster 10, it has a great chess course by IM Joshua Waitzkin in it that will help you a lot.

Kmws is chessable easy to use
yes its very easy to use, chessable.com go to sign up, then scroll through the courses. they have courses that cost money but they also have " short and sweet" with is a short version of a full opening repitiore that is free, you can select up to 5 free books if your not a paying member, people that pay have unlimited access for all free courses an discounts on certain paid books. theres opening books, tactic books, endgame books etc...
