A chess tactic is a sequence of moves that leads to a winning advantage for the side who did the tactic @rrpersson.

For instance this is a tactic called skewer:

The king has to move and the bishop picks up the queen.

You can learn tactics every weher, just search on youtube or look up the lessons/tactis on chess.com

Thank you!

A lot of people are saying. Work on tactics but what exactly does that mean? I don't know any tactics, so how could I practice them? What is a chess tactic and where do I learn them?

Working on tactics is not that hard. You have puzzle section here for instance. I use it from time to time, and I mostly use chess tempo tactics (I like it because there are standard tactics there - where gaining and losing of points does not corelate to time spent). Apart from that, there are chess books that revolves around tactics. This topic is 3 pages long, so I will not ask you to find my post. I'll just give you a link to a post I made with additional help:

I agree, but it doesn’t have to lead to a winning advantage

This is still a skewer. Black isn’t winning.

I know I meant that what you get from it is winning, like you get a queen for a bishop although the position is still losing the exchange is winnig

Sometimes you could simplify to a winning endgame even if you give some material back. For instance, once in a game I was a knight up but the opponent had some attack. In the end I decided to trade queens and a pair of rooks but I gave knight back for 2 pawns. To do that, a couple of tactical motifs were used: rook sacrifice, fork, maybe even a pin.

Engine didn't like it, but I was easily winning after that, so sorry engine but I did like my move. happy.png

Actually this is called an illegal position: both sides are in check.

Here is my last game. I don’t see where I went wrong in the opening, but the computer thinks it’s terrible:

(Yes, I lost on time. I’m playing on mobile though)

You went wrong by playing 2...Ke2?

You watch too much Hikaru it seems tongue.png

If you saw him playing 2.Ke2 it does not mean that you should play it he just plays it for fun

I don't get it. I always play this; Hikaru just backed up my thinking that this opening was ideal.

Wait why do you want to be on a black square

Agreed, if Hikaru can win with it, it must be pretty good wink.png
