How much of a direct correlation is there between your ability to figure out puzzles and playing well.

I do like the puzzles that they give you that are essentially in the beginning of a game or mid game, more than mate in two because it seems that where I personally get stuck. Is there a way to customize the puzzles to do more opening/middle game/

you can fine tune tactics by theme/motif but i have found a properly developed tactics book to be way more helpful in training

i practice with a general tactics book “1001 chess excises for beginners”

and a checkmating book “the checkmate pattern manual”

and i do these both on chessable

they really help

There is no direct correlation but it's very useful to solve puzzles. Puzzles could help you to find forcing wins in certain positions.

fwiw on chessable you are given the puzzle (much like tactics trainer) and you solve

if you get a move wrong when solving the correct move is shown and you repeat it

after solving the puzzle it is put on a “spaced repetition” cycle where you will be tested in same tactic again based on how well/or ill you know it

chessable is fantastic for tactic books imo

good luck
