Several queens in endgame

Hi! Maybe that is a very silly question but I was wondering why some of my opponents have a clearly winning position (let's say they have several pawns, a queen and I only have the king). What is it with promoting all the pawns to 3-4 queens? I mean is it merely for fun, is it some kind of "this is how poorly you played" or does it give some extra points in the league? I am talking about 650, so I would expect some serious endgame but I guess that's not the case. 

I guess it's just for fun. There isn't any point. In fact it's kind a bad idea because the person with the king could draw with repetition.

When i do it is just for fun, i don't mean to humiliate anyone, don't take it too personal, i also wasn't sure if it might give you points.
