what made you want to start playing chess?

Always with the corn! Darn you and yer addiction to cornography.

It's affordable, 'easy' fun that is deep enough to enrich life - good bang for buck pleasure ratio.
It distracts me from ennui.
It keeps my brain active.
It contributes to the image of a cultivated person I like to project.

I don't know... I just saw the pieces when I was 3 years old and I started to play with my father. I haven't improved since then😂😂😂😂

Learned the rules when I was a kid, no one around me was interested. A year ago someone gave me their "Talking Chess Professor" toy that was gathering dust, and I couldn't even beat "Fun 1" of that thing. So I decided to actually learn the game. Actually won my first game this week against another player after a string of losses!

The last time I played with my friend, I was sure I would win, but I didn't. I had a fast game. As far as I understand, I want to enjoy playing chess, even if I lose.

I play other competitive one on one sports like racquetball and tennis. Even though chess pisses me off at times, I love the one on one competition and the thinking involved.
