CP6033 v NM Petrosianic match

Great credentials!
But somehow I didn't feel that I was climbing a tree that was too high when I created this matchup... as you say - these kids improve fast - and the way CP analyzes tactics is nothing short of scary (at least to me, ok...)
I'm looking forward to a very intriguing match indeed - and not less important, a match which will certainly help CP develop further, and become a bit more known to serious players here at chess.com.
I'm amazed that you were 1400 so recently (2009). How did you manage to improve so much and so fast? And probably you'll improve further.

play, study my games, annotated games. i liked studying games collections for the tactics, in many positions Tal was one of my favorite players to study the tactical moments. and i've completed most of the chess mentor. i used to play some correspondence and i have participated in a few freestyle events and used to play against the computer some so I have a good feel for what the evaulations of many positions should be. i also have quite a bit of experience in the King's Indian and Sicilian English attack positions, and I took a video course in the English attack with IM Danny Rensch (which were my only formal lessons) and this really helped to see how a strong player studies. sometimes i listen to chess videos by john bartholomew, chessexplained, greg shahade, and the chessbrahs (RvK and eric hansen) while I study some chess games. also i have a chess24 subscription so i am developing a repertoire to some degree on that basis. i also know most of the philadelphia inventors chess team (and I played two games on bd 4 last year including http://uschessleague.com/games2015/obrienshlionsky15.html which resembles So - Kamsky a bit from the US champs), and we have exchanged ideas some, having played them, and obviously playing players who are slightly stronger than you, or know techniques that I do not know so well, I can be inspired and learn from them a bit. i used to be beaten a lot in the local Friday night blitz, and some losses forced me to learn fast. i really studied tactics very well from famous games and this saved me a lot of games moving up in the ranks, and when you can attack a King accurately, you have chances to beat anyone when you do get the initiative.

Your story is indeed inspiring!
There is every possible reason to look forward to an exciting match, with plenty of instructive annotations and analysis!!!

CP6033 was tearing through IMs? Do tell me more about it - I don't think I ever heard the story - and what is exactly Mind Games?

@solskytz-"tearing through IM's" means I won a few games against some IM's. I recall one very pleasant game against CryptoChess where I did very well I thought, and another one against penguingm, however gnaburits had my number, and I remember that he killed me in a an alapin, and won at least two other games. The mind games was probably the greatest high of my chess playing thus far-I achieved some results I was very happy with.
I would argue that you played a greatly superior game than me today. I allowed you the pin because I just missed that you could create the pin, and I had to make the best of the situation I had. I decided to go for complications with h4, and they worked in my favour. Then you played Kg7 instead of Kh8 and after that logical and simple moves were just winning for white.

And what is Mind Games exactly?? Tell us more about that experience - I'm really curious.
Winning "some games" against "some IMs'" is sign of a HUGE HUGE HUGE talent - it isn't just something you do casually, you know...
I was lucky enough to beat IMs on two occasions - one was a guy I played over 20 games with, the other was online, so maybe it was someone old, or tired, or the account was used by his sister, or I was just lucky to get his number on that one occasion.
I also beat another "near" IM after going down five games to zero before that - but then we're already down to FM territory, where I claimed quite a lot of scalps over the years...

Search it up in chess.com news and you'll find all the details.
So Petrosianic you're sure you want to terminate the match?

Funny! It was right after our games with Carlsen. I didn't realize that this was going on.
It looks like you (CP) didn't qualify from the first round - while Petrosianic actually made it to the finals...
Also, a great number of people were disqualified for cheating. There are obviously on the ball, in the cheat-detection team.

I actually qualified for the final round and placed 10th.
recall reading that CP was rated CFC 2080 though kids improve quite fast I've noted (especially in New Jersey)
i'm from eastern PA, my rating is 2232 USCF, 2031 FIDE, my best acheivement to date probably getting 5 pts at the Million Chess Open last year and winning the U2200 section in some tournament in Maryland (also last year, Regan runs good events PS). And drawing Yudasin at the team tournament this year and blowing a dead draw against Kamsky last year, though I have my fair share of stories of OTB tragedies. And I beat my first GM Bryan Smith last year after showing up late. I haven't played in many big events as I don't like playing in tournaments that last more than a day or two in general. I will post my game against Yudasin below.
I know I could be a much higher rated player if I was not so stupid sometimes. Like instead of trying to be creative and winning brilliantly, I just was somewhat more practical and focused on getting one line correct. Or if I knew more stuff (playing boring, simple positions or studying more Karpov games, etc) or was a bit more focused and professional. no regrets however, I really have enjoyed my chess experience and it is so cool to have played some of the elite players. and i was a 1400 player back in early 2009 so I could have never expected this future then.
not sure how many games we're going to do. CP suggested best of 12. thaaat's fine with me. we're playing at 3:00 PM EST today (tuesday 4/19) on the live chess server 25 minutes with a 10 second increment. i'm treating the games as training games of course but i will be doing my best to find good moves and i have no doubt the games will be entertaining to me regardless of the evenness of the quality and the results.
feel free to leave feedback, however misguided, informative, constructive, positive or provocative, preferably something fun, that's what we're here for. that, and also to learn.
