Magnus does not deserve any new title.

Kasparov taunts Putin but Putin puts the boot in.

I think his new title should be Super Saiyan Level 5

They should call 'em Grander Masters, since they is grander.

How about Great Master, Grand Wizard or Great Wizard? Sounds much better to me than OP suggest. Cool

Avatar of Connectedpasser

Grand Wizard would be cool if it wasn't for the Ku Klux Klan having already borrowed it.

So how do you propose we should objectively determine the strongest player in the world?

They should be made to lift heavy weights

Irrelevant!

Heavy-weight chess pieces, then?

Yeah, at least triple weight. Or those large outdoor sets filled with sand. When you castle, the rook must be lifted over the top of the King. And at the end of each game, the organizers suspend the entire board and pieces a few feet off the ground, then each contestant climbs underneath and must perform as many squats as they can with the board on their back.

Then, with the giant board still on their backs, they run a 100-meter dash. Points are deducted if any pieces fall off the board (9 points for a queen, 5 points for a rook, etc.). For the next event, specially constructed bishops are used, each weighing 100 kilos. From the prone position on a bench, contestants grasp special handles in the base of the bishop, and score points for each repetition of pressing the bishop upward until their arms are fully extended (the "Bishop Press"). Finally, each contestant must drag by rope a large tour bus filled with their nation's entire Women's Olympiad Team, who cheerfully wave out of open windows at the spectators. Contestants score points in inverse proportion to how long it takes the bus to reach the finish line.

Have you guys lost it?!

No. The title "Hyper Grand Master" should be given only to Fischer.

Fischer would be no match for Carlsen. If there is a player who is worth to be made extraordinary it is Garry Kasparov.

Do not also forget Karpov, he was considered to have the deepest understanding of chess. Many of Karpov's games are hard to explain - the position looks equal but suddenly his opponent becomes powerless and loses. Karpov was really great in winning "equal" positions and Magnus seems to follow him

Carlsen is no match for Fischer in term of record and others.

Let Carlsen participate in US Championship, I am sure he will not win the title. Fischer record was 11/11 undefeated and no draw in 1963–64 U.S. Championship. What can Carlsen do?

Let's not forget the current WC is Anand, not Carlsen.

Deepest understanding in chess? Can you provide some proofs?

Karpov plays are no match for Fischer. Karpov only struggled to a draw when he played black.

No, unofficial world champion is good enough.  Anand is like Adolf Anderssen whereas Carlson is like Morphy.

@pfren: I am talking about playing strength. "World champion" doesn't mean that he/she is the strongest player on earth. If what you say is right then Anand should be best among top players and also we should not use words like Super-grandmasters also!!

Anand isn't among the top players because he doesn't play much in other tournaments unlike carlsen.

There are two Morphy -- Anderssen games in this blog post. Click on the Anderrsen tag at the bottom to find a few more.

OKay.. lets say I am not talking about a particular guy Carlsen. I am actually talking about next generation of Grandmasters who would have strength that of Houdini. Should we call them supergrandmasters still?? Then Why do we call Kramnik,Anand, Carlsen etc Super GMS instead of just grandmasters?

Adolf developed a brand of beer brewed from Rocky Mountain spring water in Colorado.

Actually, that was Adolph. Was a time when his beer wasn't terrible. Perhaps as recently as my early 20s before I developed taste buds and switched to craft beer (called microbrew for several years).

Carlsen is in the 2800 Club. Everyone in that club are extremely hard to beat. How about Kasparov? He was smashing the competition back then.
