I figured it out!!
GG = Gioachino Greco!
GG is short for Gasco, Georgia U.S. a small mining town in the middle of nowhere, where it is a rule of that particular place that you always complement your opponent at the end of a game (win, lose or draw). In days gone by if you failed to do this, you had your gun confiscated by the local sheriff for 30 days. The term GG subsequently evolved to 'Good Game', after the punishment was scrapped by mayor John Goode in 1861 the year of the American civil war.
Thanks for the posts.
Another question that might be asked is if another player says GG at the end of a game that I lost are they trying to needle me ? I mean if I played a good game why didn't I win ?
--- I posted this back on page 1 and I do often feel this way. Sort of like the opening to " Gunsmoke " where Marshal Dillion quick-draws his gun and shoots the bad guy ( Good Game buddy but you're still dead ). Must be the Cynic in me I guess.
GG stands for 'Go Get...'
you have to fill in the blanks.
The options are: a life,some coaching ,another beer, screwed, a chess book, another game to play .
It really is an insult and has nothing to do with you playing a good game ,this is why people use it when you lose.
lol
I guess just don't say anything. Because if someone's pride is too flamable, any comment at all will be interpreted negatively, no matter the situation. Too me, that is a person who needs to learn some humility. Chess is a game. It should be fun to play. I guess I am asking why so serious?
Thanks for the recent posts.
Dischyzer: Good points ! It if after all a game that very few people are playing for a living. The rest of us are supposedly playing just for fun.
At Chili's restaurant it means Guiltless Grill.
I guess the grill doesn't have a conscience. It can do what it wants and have no worries. . . . . be happy.
Galloping Gourmet!
