improves your concentration , memory and things like that... Don't take chess as your career...It's a long way to improve in chess...You get happy when u win and u feel like killing yourself when u lose... just play chess for time pass... that's what i do 
Why chess? coz instead of picking your nose most of the time you get to pick chess pieces for sometime.
chess is the ultimate "psych-out" game. eminem tried it by rapping, the all-blacks rugby team try it before their matches, boxers try it before fights, but can't reach the psych-out levels of chessplayers due to the lack of physical exertions by chessplayers. it remains totally mental, powerful vibes gettin' sent out, man! it can drive players crazy, breaks down the neural networks (angels fear to tread type o' thing) if they let it build to dangerous levels without some physical release. Us 'droids have zip to fear on the other hand.
