uhh, do you know what a brilliant move is? it is the best move that is a very hard move to find and it often has an amazing idea

This is not even close to the truth.

I bet that you got that from chess.com topics, before 2020 it was a very popular notion, even though it is obviously not true.

I was given two "brilliant" moves in this game played as white in the 30 minute rapid format as a guest. These were moves 14 and 16, positional sacrifices of the knight and the exchange, both designed to exploit the queen-side isolation of blacks pieces and to open up the center onto a vulnerable king. While the term "brilliant" may be overused and not apply here for some, I do think that both moves were pretty good, given that the returns for these sacrifices were not immediately calculable.

na, I didn't

It says in the review games that a brilliant move is classified when the move is "The best move. And tricky to find too!"

so yeah

The official chess.com forum says that is when the best move is played and it has a piece sacrifice.

so I was correct

what did you think it was?

You were not correct, not even close. First of all, it does not have to be the best move. There are hundreds of examples in various topics around the forums for that. Second, "hard to find" is a subjective thing so obviously it is not included in the definition.

The actual definition is close to "a sacrifice that is good (but not necessarily the best)". However, there are many variables that are unknown and we can't even guess. For example, the definition changes a bit based on the rating of the player.

yeah, the lower the rating then the easier it is to get a brilliant.

Avatar of Tobstar123

But yeah, you're right

I mean, unless it is just a bug but that's unlikely

but uhh, every time someone says the wrong thing you don't have to come out as so passive aggressive while correcting them. just saying.
